Taglianetti's Trip

"N.Y. school chief’s killer sentenced" Associated Press   February 25, 2014

MAYVILLE, N.Y. — An ex-Marine from Virginia was sentenced Monday to 25 years to life in prison for killing a New York school superintendent over a long-distance, online relationship between the school official and the man’s wife.

A jury in November convicted Anthony Taglianetti, 43, of second-degree murder in the 2012 death of Keith Reed, who headed the 440-student Clymer Central School District.

Taglianetti, who drove 350 miles to shoot Reed, 51, in the back and chest, did not speak before receiving the maximum prison sentence.

‘‘It is my fervent hope that you never again see the light of day as a free man,’’ said Chautauqua County Judge John Ward.

District Attorney David Foley had told jurors that Taglianetti was driven to kill by a sexually explicit e-mail he discovered between his wife, Mary, and Reed.

After arriving in rural Clymer, Taglianetti first went to the school building in search of Reed. When he learned Reed was not there, Taglianetti went to the home where Reed lived alone and shot him three times.
