"In Zimbabwe, opposition agrees to share power" by Celia W. Dugger, New York Times | January 31, 2009

JOHANNESBURG - .... Tsvangirai now faces the daunting job of reviving Zimbabwe's moribund economy and rescuing an increasingly famished, sick, and impoverished population with a partner, Mugabe, whose security forces have viciously beaten Tsvangirai and thousands of his supporters over the past two years and abducted and allegedly tortured dozens more in just the last few months....

The distrust of Mugabe is so deep that it is uncertain whether the United States and European nations will lift sanctions and provide new aid for the reconstruction of Zimbabwe until they have solid evidence that he will agree to sweeping changes in the country's disastrous economic policies, as well as the restoration of the rule of law and democracy.

The suffering in Zimbabwe worsens by the day. A rampant cholera epidemic has infected more than 60,000 people and killed more than 3,100 since August.

Yeah, I'm sure the sanctions have helped.

And wasn't it just a few months ago that Mugabe was the most evil person on the planet? Now the West is willing for him to be in a power-sharing government, huh? Sort of like Hitler getting a place in post-WWII Germany, ain't it?

HARARE, Zimbabwe - President Robert Mugabe swore in his longtime rival as prime minister yesterday, loosening his nearly three-decade stranglehold on power and conceding they must work together to rescue Zimbabwe from economic and humanitarian disaster.

The image of Mugabe administering the oath of office to Morgan Tsvangirai was extraordinary given the history of state-sponsored violence against opponents. The opposition leader has been beaten and was once nearly thrown from a 10th floor window by suspected government thugs.

Tsvangirai acknowledged in a speech after the ceremony that many Zimbabweans don't think the partnership will work, but he said it is the "only viable arrangement."

****************

Many people have new hope now that the unity government is taking office, but they also worry about how serious Mugabe will be in sharing control after determinedly holding on to every shred of power since independence from Britain in 1980. He has been under pressure from aides in the military and government who do not want to give up power and prestige to the opposition.

I think we know who the MANY HOPERS are, don't we? Zimbabwe rich in resources, huh?

No military chiefs were at yesterday's ceremony. Generals have said they would not salute Tsvangirai, a former labor leader who did not take part in the independence war that ousted a white-minority regime and swept Mugabe to power....

Ooooooohhhhhh! So Tsvangirai IS an INTELLIGENCE ASSET of the BRITISH!!

At a celebration rally attended by about 15,000 supporters later in the day, Tsvangirai pledged to reopen schools that are closed because teachers can't afford bus fare and to fight a cholera epidemic blamed on the cash-strapped government's neglect of hospitals and sanitation....

No death toll given this time? Cholera and the UNBEARABLE SUFFERING now NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH to mention save for a flippant comment in the back of a miserable piece about bulls*** politics?

And let's see, you see anything about cholera in here:

Zimbabwe opposition official arrested

How about in this article?

Top aide's arrest blamed on factions

Nothing about CHOLERA, huh?

I rest my case on the racist, Zionist-controlled AmeriKan MSM, folks.

Almost makes you think Mugabe is right, huh?
