The Gates of the Globe

The lead story of the day:

"Racial talk swirls with Gates arrest; Harvard scholar taken from home" by Tracy Jan, Globe Staff | July 21, 2009

The scene - two black men on the porch of a stately home on a tree-lined Cambridge street in the middle of the day - triggered events that were at turns dramatic and bizarre, a confrontation between one of the nation’s foremost African-American scholars and a police sergeant responding to a call that someone was breaking into the house.

It ended when Gates, 58, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct in allegedly shouting at the officer; he was eventually taken away in handcuffs. But the encounter is anything but over. Some of Gates’s outraged colleagues said the run-in proves that even in a liberal enclave like Harvard Square, even with someone of Gates’s accomplishments, a black man is a suspect before he is a resident....

Yup, a loud, creaky, divisive hinge.

Update:
Gates demands apology

Would you stand for this?

All of a sudden the Globe is worried about civil rights after advancing the agenda of tyranny and torture these last years?

Here's a quieter hinge (must have got some oil):

"Gates temporarily ups size of Army by 22,000; To help needs in Iraq, Afghanistan" by Pauline Jelinek, Associated Press | July 21, 2009

WASHINGTON - Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced yesterday that the size of the Army will be increased temporarily by 22,000 soldiers to help meet the needs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and other missions around the world.

This is the second time since 2007 that the military has determined it does not have a large enough force. Gates had already increased the size of the Army and Marine Corps shortly after taking the Pentagon job.

Anybody feel a cold breeze blowing by?

I'm starting to wonder when the FALSE-FLAG TERROR EVENT comes rolling in, aren't you?

Gates noted that while progress in Iraq will lead to a reduction in the number of troops there, more troops are needed in Afghanistan because of the worsening violence in that conflict.

I've been hearing progress and leaving for years, so go blow, Bob.

He said the persistent pace of operations in the two wars over several years has meant a steady increase in the number of troops who are wounded, stressed, or otherwise unable to deploy with their units.

I can SMELL the DRAFT, can't you, kiddos?

May God forgive this nation for its war-mongering blood lust.

Aren't the WOUNDED and DEAD SOLDIERS enough for a LIE, AmeriKa?

The buildup in Afghanistan and the shift in Iraq from a combat to a training and assistance force added to the problem by pulling individual soldiers out of their units to fill specialized positions, officials have said. That includes the recent Obama administration decisions to create special advisory brigades with extra trainers and other specialists for Iraq.

We aren't "withdrawing" from anything, Americans!!!

Obama is just changing the names of the forces there.

Btw, when was the last time the Globe carried an article about Iraq?
