Swine Flu Threat Slowly Fading

Did the bloggers screaming and hollering help?

"NIH expands swine flu shot tests to pregnant women

WASHINGTON --
It's time to test the new swine flu vaccine in pregnant women.

Swine Flu Shot to Slaughter Young and Strong

Studies of adults and children are going so well that the National Institutes of Health announced Wednesday it is opening the research to 120 women in their second or third trimester of pregnancy. The flu always is dangerous to pregnant women, and 6 percent of U.S. swine flu deaths so far have been among pregnant women. The new swine flu vaccine is just a recipe change from the regular flu vaccine long given to pregnant women and thus shouldn't cause new safety concerns. But the studies are key to learning what dose is required for protection."

Who knows? Every other day it is mutating and spreading

"Drug-resistant flu may have spread; Two girls at camp show same strain" by Mike Stobbe, Associated Press | September 11, 2009

ATLANTA - Health officials are reporting what might be the first instance of a Tamiflu-resistant swine flu virus spreading from one person to another....

Good. I don't want that crap anyway.

Tamiflu is one of two flu medicines that help against swine flu, and health officials have been closely watching for signs that the virus is mutating, making the drugs ineffective.

How could Tamiflu help against a virus no one knew about?

Unless....

Remember that for later.

Meanwhile, one dose of the new swine flu vaccine looks strong enough to protect adults, and can spark protection within 10 days of the shot, Australian and US researchers said yesterday. Australian shot maker CSL Ltd. published results of a study that found between 75 percent and 96 percent of vaccinated people should be protected with one dose - remarkable considering scientists thought it would take two doses.

What that says to me is the ALARM SHOWN by the public has them backing off!!

US data to be released today confirm those findings, and show the protection starts rapidly, Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health said....

Both girls had been given Tamiflu before they got sick - as a preventive measure - after an outbreak of swine flu at the camp. They were among more than 600 campers and camp staff treated, which might have been part of the problem: Overuse of medicines can contribute to viruses becoming drug resistant.

Oh, GREAT!!!

WASHINGTON - The nation’s first round of swine flu shots could begin sooner than expected, with some vaccine available as early as the first week of October, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said yesterday.

Sebelius said she is confident that the vaccine will be available early enough to beat the peak of the expected flu season this fall and that early doses are intended for health care workers and other high-priority groups.

“We’re on track to have an ample supply rolling by the middle of October. But we may have some early vaccine as early as the first full week in October. We’ll get the vaccine out the door as fast as it rolls off the production line,’’ she told ABC’s “This Week.’’

They REALLY, REALLY want to JAB YOU with that needle, don't they?

The possibility of early shots follows encouraging news last week about the swine flu vaccine. Researchers have discovered that one dose instead of two could be enough for healthy adults, and protection could begin once vaccinated within 10 days instead of three weeks. “That’s great, which means we’ll have a lot more vaccine,’’ she said....

The winter flu vaccine is widely available now, and health authorities urged people last week to get shots now before swine flu shots start arriving. In addition to concerns about swine flu, doctors also expect some garden-variety flu this fall as well, an illness that typically kills 36,000 Americans and hospitalizes 200,000 each year.

Gee, that one sounds more dangerous than the swine. Why no agenda-pushing fear mongering?

In a separate development yesterday, researchers reported the results of successful tests of what could become the first new flu medicine in a decade, and the strongest evidence yet that such drugs save lives, not just shorten illness.

Why would they EVEN NEED TO ANSWER a question like that?

WHAT ELSE WOULD IT DO, huh? KILL YOU?

The results were reported at an American Society for Microbiology conference in San Francisco. It is the first big meeting of infectious disease specialists since the new H1N1 swine flu emerged in April.... Several other studies showed the value of treatment with Tamiflu.

This REALLY IS about DRUG COMPANY PROFITS!

In one study of hundreds of people stricken with bird flu around the world, half of those given Tamiflu survived, while nearly 90 percent of those not given flu medicines died. Other research showed Tamiflu improved survival from regular seasonal flu, too.

It's a REAL WONDER DRUG, huh?

“There has been an accumulation of evidence over time that the antiviral drugs can save lives,’’ and the new studies confirm that hope, said Nancy Cox, flu chief at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

So if you DON'T TAKE THEIR POISON you want to die, right?

And just what we need to stall the recovery: a SWINE FLU SETBACK!

"Prepare for flu, small companies urged; US predicts firms will have to get by despite short staff" by Matthew Perrone, Associated Press | September 15, 2009

WASHINGTON - The Department of Homeland Security is issuing flu guidelines to small businesses....

DHS? Shouldn't it be Health and Human Services?

Also yesterday, researchers reported that many people spread swine flu for a week or more after symptoms appear, and that coughing may be a better sign than fever for telling who is contagious.

Oh, this is RIDICULOUS! Then the outbreak wouldn't have been so small!!!!

So WHEN are you RELEASING the NEW LAB MUTATION, 'eh? Two weeks from now?

Cough, cough.

Uh-oh, it must be swine flu.

Health officials have been telling people to avoid contact with others for a day after their fever goes away. The new research suggests they may need to be careful for longer, especially at home, where the risk of spreading the germ is highest.

No problem there.

“You’re probably contagious for about a week,’’ said Dr. Gaston De Serres, a scientist at the Institute of Public Health in Quebec....

GO AWAY!

The CDC is preparing for two scenarios: one in which the swine flu remains relatively mild, another in which the virus mutates, becoming more dangerous.

So when does the exercise go live?

Jernigan said small-business owners should be prepared for both scenarios, though “we haven’t seen any changes that suggest greater severity.’’

What, after it got into the birds?

So is it mutating or not? Why the MIXED MESSAGES, huh?

"Flu symptoms showing up on campus

A small number of Massachusetts college and university students are reporting flu symptoms, health authorities said yesterday. Possible flu cases have been seen at Boston University and Northeastern University, according to the Boston Public Health Commission. Officials at Brandeis University - where classes resumed Aug. 27, earlier than some other schools - said 12 students have come down with signs of the flu. Patients with flu symptoms are not being routinely tested, so it is not possible to know for sure whether the students have swine flu.

What!?!!!!

So ANY sweat bead or throat clear is going to be called swine flu this fall??
