"Two veterans’ clinics win state reprieve

Two outpatient veterans clinics that had been closed because of state budget cuts will reopen, Governor Deval Patrick said yesterday. The Patrick administration, citing a need to close a $600 million budget deficit, directed the outpatient clinics, which offered free medical care to veterans in state soldiers’ homes in Chelsea and Holyoke, to be closed in December. In a reversal, Patrick announced that funding for both clinics would be restored, citing “improving state revenues and the compelling needs of our veterans.’’
