Iroquois Illegal in England

And after they fought on your side against the French.

Talk about your British betrayal.

"Iroquois lacrosse team barred entry to England" by Samantha Gross, Associated Press | July 15, 2010

NEW YORK — A North American Indian lacrosse team will not be allowed entry into England for the world championship of the sport the Iroquois helped invent unless members accept US or Canadian passports, the British government said yesterday.

The Iroquois Nationals team will not be attending the world championship in Manchester unless the British government reverses its decision and allows players to use passports issued by the Iroquois Confederacy, said Tonya Gonnella Frichner, a lawyer for the team....

The British government’s decision was announced hours after the United States cleared the team for travel on a one-time waiver at the behest of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Kind of a back-handed bitch slap by the British, 'eh?

Authorities in the United States initially had refused to accept the passports issued by the Iroquois Confederacy, which lack new security features now required for border crossings because of post-Sept. 11 crackdowns on document fraud and illegal immigration.

What crackdown? The southern border is still wide open.

"Iroquois lacrosse team still in limbo" by Associated Press | July 17, 2010

NEW YORK — Iroquois lacrosse players who have been blocked from traveling to a tournament in England because they refuse to use US or Canadian passports were spending another day in limbo yesterday while hoping for a diplomatic breakthrough.

The 23 members of the Iroquois Nationals team have already missed their first scheduled game of the World Lacrosse Championships.

The United Kingdom has refused to recognize passports issued by the Iroquois confederacy.

The team’s manager, Ansley Jemison, said early yesterday that negotiations were continuing with British authorities and the squad still hoped to be able to leave on a flight last evening.

Their next game is scheduled for today.

The team had to forfeit its first game, scheduled for Thursday against England, when it did not arrive.

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

What, AFRAID you were going to LOSE AGAIN, limeys?

Members of the team say they will use passports issued only by the confederacy, a centuries-old league of semiautonomous Indian nations made up of people who now live mostly in New York, Ontario, and Quebec.

They REALLY MAY BE ON TO SOMETHING there, New England!!!

They do not consider themselves citizens of the United States or Canada.

Some countries had accepted the Iroquois, or Haudenosaunee, passports in the past, but many have tightened travel rules in recent years to crack down on document fraud and illegal immigration.

Racists.

Everybody hates the red man, huh?

On Thursday, the team’s chairman, Oren Lyons, sounded hopeful a solution was in the works, saying there had been “movement’’ in discussions with the United Kingdom.

But a spokesman for Britain’s Home Office, who spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with ministry rules, said there had been no change in the country’s position.

So what's the score, Globe?

Why no update?

Maybe they should thank their lucky stars they were not allowed in:

"Ex-detainees get OK to sue Britain" by Associated Press | July 15, 2010

LONDON — Former Guantanamo detainees can proceed with lawsuits accusing Britain of complicity in torture overseas, a High Court judge ruled yesterday, rejecting a government request to suspend the action.

Britain had asked a judge to direct the six men, and six others who plan to launch similar cases, to halt their lawsuits and focus on reaching out-of-court settlements, which would allow an independent inquiry into the accusations to begin.

Yes, let them get on with the whitewash.

But High Court Judge Stephen Silber ruled that the men can press ahead with their cases, even if their lawyers decide to take part in mediation talks aimed at reaching a deal outside the courts. Some documents giving a taste of what might be released in the inquiry also were released, showing an often confused government position under the former prime minister, Tony Blair.

I don't spell the name Bliar for no reason.

Prime Minister David Cameron said last week that a retired judge will lead an independent inquiry into how much the government knew about claims that some detainees were badly treated or tortured by allies.
