Chile Check For Breakfast

Remember the record-breaking earthquake from six months ago?

Chile sure cleaned that up quick.

"Chile’s ex-president to head UN agency" by Associated Press | September 15, 2010

UNITED NATIONS — Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the appointment yesterday of Chile’s former president Michelle Bachelet to head the UN agency to promote women’s equality, saying she will bring “dynamic global leadership’’ to the new post.

Just wondering when the U.N. is going to defend the women of Afghanistan from being shredded by U.S. air strikes.

Yeah, the U.N. is looking out for women. Right.

Bachelet was tipped as a possible leader of the agency — to be known as “UN Women’’ — immediately after the General Assembly voted unanimously on July 2 to put four existing UN bodies dealing with the advancement of women under a single umbrella. But UN officials said she initially told them she was not interested because she wanted to remain active in Chilean politics after stepping down from the presidency in March with sky-high approval ratings.

I wonder what made her change her mind.

The secretary-general made no mention of what changed Bachelet’s mind, but he said he took “special satisfaction’’ in announcing her appointment because the creation of “one powerful, dynamic, and effective’’ women’s entity “has been a top and very personal priority of mine.’’

“I am confident that under her strong leadership, we can improve the lives of millions of women and girls throughout the world,’’ Ban told reporters.

Like have them over for a lunch?

Looks like the U.N. is helping itself.

The UN chief said Bachelet was chosen from 26 candidates from around the world nominated by governments, nongovernmental organizations, and civic groups.

What a globalist front and fraud the U.N. has become.

"Trapped miners in Chile rejoice over breakthrough with drill" by Federico Quilodran and Frank Bajak, Associated Press | September 18, 2010

SANTIAGO, Chile — Drilling equipment pounded its way yesterday into one of the caverns where 33 miners have been trapped for a month and a half, completing a bore hole ahead of schedule and raising hopes that the men can be pulled out earlier than expected....

Video shot by the miners and released by the government later yesterday showed scenes of bedlam below when the drill broke through, sending a shower of water and rock down into the chamber.

“Viva Chile’’ the miners cried, hugging each other and posing for the camera with broad smiles and headlamps beaming....

The miners have endured sweltering conditions for weeks, and the discipline and resiliency they have shown through their ordeal has been a point of pride among Chileans — perhaps especially so as the nation celebrates the bicentennial of its independence today.

Gee, the AmeriKan MSM sure was quiet about that party.

It couldn't be that the corporate (and colonialist) media doesn't want to encourage such thoughts among people, right?

The miners celebrated the bicentennial Thursday, with beef and empanadas, and they decorated their chamber with a plastic Chilean flag....
