Using the Pope as Propaganda

Don't worry; New York Times will clean it up:

"The mood for the Pope's arrival was upbeat."

Yeah, you won't find that in the rewritten piece of crap.

"Pope calm after 6 nabbed in suspected terror plot" by David Stringer and Victor L. Simpson, Associated Press Writer | September 17, 2010

LONDON --Police raided a garbage depot and arrested street cleaners in a suspected terror plot against Pope Benedict XVI on Friday....

Five of the suspects were street cleaners arrested at a garbage depot in central London and a sixth was picked up later in the day. All six were arrested "on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism." Police said they ranged in age from 26 to 50, and media reports said some were Algerian, though authorities would not confirm that.

Police said they received information about a potential threat against the pope overnight, prompting the arrests under Britain's Terrorism Act. All six were being questioned and had not been formally charged....

I am SO SICK of the FALSE-FLAGGING GARBAGE, folks!!

WHO would want to MARTYR the POPE when his CHURCH is CRUMBLING?!!!

The street cleaners worked for a contractor on behalf of Westminster Council, the authority responsible for much of central London, including the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and other sites on the pope's itinerary Friday....

Weren't these guys given a BACKGROUND CHECK?

A street sweeper at the depot said at least one of those arrested was Algerian and he believed all five were from North Africa. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media....

Undeterred, the pontiff stuck to his message, reaching across Britain's religious and secular divide to demand a greater role for faith in public life.

Despite the six arrests, the pope did not alter a schedule rich in symbolism in this officially Protestant country with a history of anti-Catholicism....

Benedict also addressed political, cultural and business leaders in Westminster Hall, for centuries the center of British political life, asserting "the legitimate role of religion in the public square."

Among those in attendance were Tony Blair -- a prominent convert to Catholicism -- as well as former prime ministers Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Gordon Brown....

Benedict's visit has been overshadowed by disgust over the Catholic Church's clerical abuse scandal and opposition from secularists and those who oppose the church's positions on homosexuality and using condoms to fight AIDS.

Security has been visibly higher than on Benedict's previous foreign trips, and Vatican officials have acknowledged that Britain represents a greater threat than other European countries the pope toured this year, including Portugal, Malta and Cyprus....

That is where my printed paper ended it.

"In London, pope voices ‘deep sorrow’ on abuse of children; Some 10,000 protesters rally against church" by John F. Burns, New York Times | September 19, 2010

LONDON — On a day when he faced the largest protests of his four-day state visit to Britain, Pope Benedict XVI used an address at a Mass in Westminster Cathedral yesterday to reiterate his “deep sorrow’’ for the “unspeakable crimes’’ of child abuse within the Roman Catholic Church.

Amazing how the agenda-pushing corporate media can find a protest when they want.

Greek truckers have been on strike for ten days and I've seen next to nothing.

The pope’s remarks followed others in recent times in which he has struck an increasingly remorseful tone about the abuse scandal. But they took on added weight for the fact that they were made before 2,000 worshipers in the cathedral that is the seat of Catholicism in England, and before a protest march on a scale rare in the recent history of the papacy....

Hours later, the protest marchers offered to give an official estimate of the numbers involved, but police officers put the total at the march’s height at about 10,000; march organizers offered similar estimates.

The marchers represented a coalition of groups hostile to the pope and his policies on the role of women in the church, abortion and contraception, homosexuality, and above all his handling of the child abuse revelations that have rocked the church.

Speeches and banners made keenly personal attacks on Benedict...

The abuse scandal continued to cast a broad shadow on the visit....

Many in the papal entourage seemed encouraged that it had gone as well as it has.

They seemed buoyed by a sense that — in part because of the pope’s increasingly regretful remarks — it had avoided becoming a showcase for how deeply troubled the church has become as the abuse scandal has unfolded....

"Pope’s UK trip a great success, Vatican says" by Associated Press | September 20, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, England — On his final day in Britain, Pope Benedict XVI yesterday praised British heroics against the Nazis to mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and moved an Englishman a step closer to possible sainthood....

I should have known that word would show up sooner or later.

The Vatican declared Benedict’s four-day visit a “great success,’’ saying the pontiff was able to reach out to a nation wary of his message and angry at his church’s sex abuse scandal.

The Rev. Federico Lombardi, Vatican spokesman, said that the important thing wasn’t so much the turnout — crowds were much smaller than when Pope John Paul II visited in 1982 — but that Benedict’s warning about the dangers of an increasingly secularized society had been received “with profound interest’’ from Britons as a whole.

Yeah, notice the agenda-pushing MSM never followed up on that?

They just wanted the impression to linger in your mind: terrorists tried to attack the Pope!
