Obama in India

He's over there moving weapons and pimping for corporations.

Not much change for an AmeriKan president.

"Obama begins 10-day overseas tour in India; 4-nation trip aims to lift democracy and US economy" by Erica Werner, Associated Press  |  November 6, 2010

WASHINGTON — President Obama left the fallout from the Democrats’ election drubbing behind yesterday as he headed for India and what’s likely to be a friendlier reception in the world’s largest democracy....

Obama and his wife, Michelle, boarded Air Force One at midmorning to fly to Mumbai, India, where he was to arrive around noon local time today. It’s the first stop on a 10-day tour through India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan, the longest foreign outing of his presidency.

What's the taxpayer-funded carbon footprint on that?

Obama’s trip aims to seek out economic benefit for the United States, but advisers are also emphasizing his decision to visit four vibrant, growing democracies.

Is he going to bring back some of  the call centers and IT jobs?

It’s an itinerary meant to reinforce support for democratic values as the US commitment to human rights worldwide has come into question....

Because of the torture and mass-murdering invasions over lies?

The Asia trip is anchored by must-attend gatherings of world leaders in South Korea and Japan.

This week’s Democratic bloodletting is sure to dog Obama to the other side of the world. He’ll be meeting with growing powers certain to be keenly aware they’re dealing with a newly weakened president....

And he was not acting that strong to begin with.

The trip to India is Obama’s first to the burgeoning nation of 1.2 billion, a huge and growing trading partner where US officials see infinite potential....

A-ha!

“The primary purpose is to take a bunch of US companies and open up markets so that we can sell in Asia, in some of the fastest-growing markets in the world, and we can create jobs here in the United States,’’ Obama told reporters Thursday....

Sir, we have heard the same s*** for decades. Stop lying to us, you globalist tool.

The trip includes a stop in Indonesia, where Obama lived with his mother and Indonesian stepfather between the ages of 6 and 10.

Just wondering if he is going to tour the volcano or tsunami sites.

The president is squeezing in some sightseeing, including a visit to the enormous Istiqlal Mosque in Indonesia, a Great Buddha statue in Japan, and the Gandhi museum in Mumbai.

One would hope he might learn something there!

The president’s popularity overseas has mostly held steady even as it has waned at home, and he’s making a point to engage with the populace along the way. He’s meeting with schoolchildren and holding a town hall for college students in India and speaking to a large, open crowd in Indonesia.

He listens more to them than he does his own citizens.

US economic concerns will be front and center at a summit of the Group of 20 major economies in Seoul, followed by a meeting in Yokohama, Japan, of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

Is that why a 34-ship AmeriKan armada is trailing behind?

Obama hopes to be able to announce concrete progress on a Korea free-trade agreement, which has long been stalled in Congress primarily because of opposition from Democratic lawmakers over barriers to sales of US autos in Korea. A more heavily Republican Congress could be more amenable to the deal.

Yeah, every time we vote for change here in AmeriKa things go from bad to worse.

Also high on the agenda is controversy over how China values its currency, with many in the United States contending it’s artificially low to keep Chinese exports cheap.

That's a cover for the world wanting to dump the PoS dollar that Bernanke's printing presses have destroyedOnce the dollar is dumped as the reserve currency of the world Americans will quickly find their paper is worth nothing.

Ever notice the AmeriKan corporate media buries and distorts the truly important issues?

"No fallen coconuts mar president’s visit

MUMBAI, India — Staff security checks at the Gandhi museum before President Obama’s visit — check. But the coconut palm trees, too?

A few days before Obama’s visit yesterday, US and Indian security officials visited the small, two-story building and ordered the lopping off of ripe coconuts from the trees to prevent any accidental bonking.

Why, worried it might knock some sense into him?

“People do get hurt, or even killed, from falling coconuts. We had the ripe coconuts removed and some dried branches as well. Why take a chance?’’ said Meghshyam Ajgaonkar, executive secretary of the Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum, located on a quiet street in this bustling commercial hub.

"Obama's Peace Dividend: War Profiteering in the land of Gandhi

The Nobel Peace Laureate Barack Obama, who in his prize-claiming speech boldly claimed the mantle of Mahatma Gandhi, is now visiting India. And why has he made this pilgrimage to the homeland of his spiritual mentor? Has he come to drink more deeply of the wellsprings of satyagraha, to steep himself more thoroughly in the Gandhian principles of courageous, active, non-violent resistance to evil, to the Mahatma's ceaseless dedication to the poor and the outcast?

No: he has come to seal the deal on the sixth largest sale of war weapons in the history of the United States: $5 billion for the bristling, burgeoning Indian military, currently waging war on millions of its own people in Kashmir and the poverty-devastated state of central India, where the despair is so deep that suicide among the poor is epidemic.

Five billion dollars could have transformed the lives and futures of millions; instead it will go into the pockets of a few American war profiteers -- who will of course spread the wealth around to their favorite politicians ... such as Barack Obama, the leading recipient of war industry money in the 2008 campaign, outdoing even that old soldier and ardent militarist, John McCain.

And of course the Indian arms deal comes hot on the heels of the largest transaction of death-machinery in American history: Obama's $60 billion war-profiteering bonanza with Saudi Arabia, one of the most suffocatingly repressive and inhumane regimes on the face of the earth. But the Peace Laureate doesn't care about that. He knows what is truly important -- and it isn't the blighted lives of the Saudi people, or all those affected by the corruption and extremism that the Saudi royals have spread around the world (with the connivance, cooperation -- or at the command of -- the bipartisan American power structure). What matters most to the progressive paragon of peace is the sixty billion dollars stuffed into the coffers of his militarist backers....

We now return you to our regular BS:

In preparation for the visit, the museum was shielded from onlookers and neighbors by a high white tent that covered almost the entire building. The street was closed to pedestrians. Police were positioned on neighboring buildings....

Yeah, Gandhi would have loved that: the tyrannical AmeriKan bubble descending upon his museum.

On the other side of the Indian border, Pakistan, Obama was criticized for visiting India. Some Pakistanis said he had given priority to New Delhi despite their country’s sacrifices in the US fight against terrorism.

“People are being killed here in bomb blasts and it is only happening because of Pakistan’s support to America in the war against terrorism, but look at the American president, who is visiting India instead of coming here,’’ said Huma Nawaz, 23, a university student in Islamabad.

Hey, he is going there in 2011.

I can't imagine that is making him any more popular. Does a friend do that to a friend?

Javed Rashid, a businessman from the central city of Multan, also said Obama’s visit clearly showed that Washington had better diplomatic ties with India.

“This is the failure of our foreign policy that Obama went to India,’’ Rashid said.

I don't know what more the government lackeys could have done. Attack the Northwest Frontier I suppose.

“Obama has insulted Pakistanis by traveling to India,’’ Rashid said.

"Obama casts his trip to Asia as an economic mission; Says changing export rules can create US jobs" by Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Vikas Bajaj, New York Times  |  November 7, 2010

MUMBAI, India — President Obama, fresh off a stinging electoral defeat for the Democrats, opened a 10-day tour of Asia yesterday with a courtship of corporate America, including private meetings with business executives and an announcement that he will lift longstanding restrictions on US exports of closely held technologies to India.

You see who is really working for right, America?

After an election season dominated by voter dissatisfaction with his management of the economy, the president is casting the four-nation trip, which will also take him to Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan, as an economic mission, with a heavy emphasis on creating jobs and opening foreign markets to US goods.

He really thinks we are going to continue buying his BS? How lame.

He hopes to come home from South Korea, for instance, with a renegotiated free trade deal, and trade was high on his agenda in India. His move to ease so called dual-use restrictions, which bar US export of technologies that might be used to build weapons, has been a high priority for companies here and in the United States.

Yeah, it's okay to proliferate to people who haven't signed the NPT.

“As we look to India today, the United States sees an opportunity to sell our exports in one of the fastest-growing markets in the world,’’ Obama told a gathering of political leaders and Indian and American executives. “For America, this is a jobs strategy.’’

So war-profiteering is now equals job creation.

India has long sought a loosening of the export restrictions more for political reasons than economic ones — the country did not want to be viewed as a rogue state — and the move is part of a bid to strengthen relations with India.

Oh, we LUUUUUVVV rogue states. Look at all the dough we shower on war-criminal Israel.

But the trip, Obama’s first extended foray overseas this year, is also an attempt to ease tensions with America’s chief executives, many of whom spent the recent campaign accusing the White House of being antibusiness — and pouring money into the coffers of Republican candidates.

If I were a Democrat and read that I would be furious.

Here he never listened to you or your concerns the two years you controlled Congress -- a big part of the loss -- and now he is cozying up to the same people who stabbed in the back (or did they? More like a hand up the ass).

More than 200 American executives timed a business conference to coincide with Obama’s arrival in Mumbai — and the president reciprocated by showering them with attention.

The chief executive of Boeing, Jim McNerney, who also leads the President’s Export Council, greeted Obama when Air Force One touched down and was rewarded with a ride downtown aboard the presidential helicopter. Later, Obama met privately with American chief executives, among them Jeffrey R. Immelt of General Electric, who has been critical of the White House in the past.

“It’s unprecedented,’’ Immelt said in an interview, praising Obama for talking up trade, a politically risky move for a Democrat....

Pfffft!

The White House also announced that, as part of the trip, US and Indian companies signed or are about to sign 20 deals worth about $10 billion that will help create more than 50,000 jobs in the United States.

Yeah, that's the number of immigrant visas Indian companies will need for their workers.

You aren't getting those jobs, Americans.  Not only do you not have the ejerkashun, you ain't interested.

Many of those deals, however, have been in negotiations for some time. Some, like Boeing’s sale of C-17 cargo planes, have yet to be finalized in spite of 11th-hour negotiations between Indian and US officials in the days leading up to Obama’s arrival.

Don't worry, it will be.

Yeah, those deals always seem to get done.

In the afternoon, Obama met with a group of 25 Indian executives, including entrepreneurs who are working on start-ups involved in electric cars and water purifying companies. Obama told the group that he wanted to hear from them about new ideas that could help create jobs in the United States and emerging markets like India, said Shaffi Mather, a young Indian businessman who attended the meeting.

India, of course, is a delicate place for Obama to talk about jobs, given US concerns about outsourcing.

He's more concerned about the corporate execs.

As a candidate, Obama often lamented the tax incentives and lack of educational opportunities in the United States that, as he liked to say, forced children from Boston to compete for jobs with children from Bangalore.

Here in Mumbai, he steered clear of the Boston-Bangalore analogy, as he made the case that investment overseas can create jobs at home.

A politician playing to the audience in front of which he is speaking?

“There still exists a caricature of India as a land of call centers and back offices that cost American jobs,’’ Obama said. “That’s a real perception. But these old stereotypes, these old concerns ignore today’s reality: In 2010, trade between our countries is not just a one-way street of American jobs and companies moving to India. It is a dynamic, two-way relationship that is creating jobs, growth, and higher living standards in both our countries.’’

What would that lying sack of s*** know about reality?

NEW DELHI — President Obama appealed yesterday for India and Pakistan to resolve their conflict through dialogue, saying the United States has to cooperate with Pakistan to fight extremism and that regional instability will only harm India.

He's a fine one to talk!

Answering questions at a town hall meeting at St. Xavier College in Mumbai, Obama expressed support for two strong US allies that see each other as archrivals.

Pakistan is an important partner in the US war in Afghanistan, and Obama has called India a vital economic partner and expressed hope that its roaring economy can help create jobs back in the United States.

But mainly Hindu India and largely Muslim Pakistan — each of which developed nuclear weapons as a deterrent against the other — have fought three wars since they gained independence from Britain in 1947, and they remain deeply suspicious of each other’s motives.

You know who I am suspicious of, dear readers.

Indian officials have accused Pakistan’s spy agency of helping orchestrate the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai, and Pakistan sees Indian ties to Afghanistan as an attempt to encircle it.

But with Pakistan reeling from extremist attacks, Obama said India had the biggest stake in seeing Pakistan succeed, stabilize, and prosper.

“It is absolutely in your interests, at a time when you’re starting to succeed in incredible ways on the global economic stage, that you [don’t] want the distraction of security instability in your region,’’ he said. “So my hope is that over time, trust develops between the two countries, that dialogue begins — perhaps on less controversial issues, building up to more controversial issues.’’

**************

As Obama continues his 10-day trip to Asia, he plans to address the Indian Parliament today, with announcements expected on counterterrorism, regional security, clean energy, climate change, and economic growth.

The president is spending two nights in New Delhi before moving on to Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan.

During the forum at St. Xavier College, Obama took six questions. One of the sharper ones was: “Why is Pakistan so important an ally to America, so far as America has never called it a terrorist state?’’

There were some murmurs from the audience, but Obama said it was OK. He knew the question was coming.

Scripted town halls just like Bush, 'eh?

Obama had received a prickly response from some Indian commentators on his first day in the country for failing to mention Pakistan when honoring the memories of those killed in the Mumbai attacks.

See: Heads Up, Pakistan!

To his college audience, he said the Pakistani government understands the dangerous elements that hide and operate within its borders. He also defended the strategic importance of Pakistan to the United States, as he has with India.

“We will work with the Pakistani government in order to eradicate this extremism that we consider a cancer within the country that can potentially engulf the country.’’ He said the US approach is to “be honest and forthright with Pakistan, to say, ‘We are your friend, this is a problem and we will help you, but the problem has to be addressed.’ ’’

On board with the neo-con war plan.

Obama also welcomed Indian investment in Afghanistan, saying all the countries in the region are going to need to help bring peace to Afghanistan.

“We don’t think we can do this alone,’’ he said.

Tomorrow, Obama will begin his visit to Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country and the place where he lived from age 6 to 10.

There is renewed attention on terrorists in Indonesia, who in the past year have appeared to be banding together into a new Al Qaeda-influenced insurgency.

Recent Pentagon moves to renew a training program with Indonesia’s special forces and bolster military assistance show that the Obama administration believes the country needs more help tracking and rooting out insurgents, particularly those who rejoin the fight once they are released from jail.

Yup, MORE MONEY to The WAR STATE!

All over GOVERNMENT-GENERATED GARBAGE!

The US has praised Indonesia’s efforts to crack down on terrorists.

Can you tell I'm TIRED of the GAME?!!

Government police and military authorities have captured or killed more than 100 terrorists over the past year.

US defense officials, however, worry about the overall threat. They’re watching for any signs of movement or increased communications between Indonesian extremists and Al Qaeda leaders in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Then NOTHING SHOULD EVER HAPPEN, and if it does then the TRYANNICAL EYES of TYRANNY will have to be ABOLISHED because they will have FAILED!

The officials say Indonesia has exhibited both the will and the ability to pursue extremists.

Really? When do they occupy Washington and Tel Aviv?

"India creates environmental law tribunal" by Associated Press  |  October 20, 2010

NEW DELHI — Polluters, beware: India has created a tribunal to punish those who sully the forests or rivers or otherwise break its environmental laws, in the hopes of clearing a backlog of some 5,000 such cases languishing in a sluggish court system.

India’s judicial system is marred by crammed dockets, rampant corruption, and a lack of transparency, but yesterday’s announcement makes it only the third country to set up a separate judiciary for environmental cases, after Australia and New Zealand, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said.

You know, the things you would find in a shining democracy.

“We have taken a giant step forward in having a tribunal to take quick decisions on behalf of the people of India,’’ Ramesh said.

Once up and running, the National Green Tribunal can order polluters to pay civil damages in any amount instead of the previous $564 liability.

Specialists said the tribunal would ensure that informed judges were deciding environmental cases....

Who will then be bought off with corporate cash.

This is not the first time India has tried to set up an environmental tribunal. An effort that started 14 years ago went nowhere because of a lack of political will and undefined mandate.

Yeah, that's a democracy -- judging my current AmeriKan political standards.

When it is something good for the people it take forever.
