Israel Needs a Draft

Facebook is helping them catch the deserters.

"Israeli military facing decline in status, recruits; Government launches effort to halt the trend" by Janine Zacharia,  Washington Post / November 28, 2010

TEL HASHOMER, Israel — Since Israel’s founding, the military has served not just as a defender against outside threats, but as the glue that brings together a patchwork nation of immigrants.

This stuff is really starting to make me sick.

Now, the Israel Defense Forces’ position as the country’s most venerated institution appears to be slipping. While service is compulsory for most young men and women, a growing minority is avoiding conscription, leaving planners to worry that the military will not have the troops it says it needs.

So WHO is ISRAEL PLANNING to ATTACK in the NEAR FUTURE?

The characteristics of those who do serve are changing in striking ways. Officers who are ideologically opposed to relinquishing Israeli control of the West Bank are taking on a more prominent role, potentially complicating any eventual Israeli withdrawal of Jewish settlers from the territory as part of a peace deal with the Palestinians.

This is why I never take peace talk seriously.

And notice Zionist extremists and militants are described very benignly as "settlers" -- implying that NO ONE was LIVING THERE before!

Recent scandals have reignited debate about morals and accountability in the armed forces, and analysts say public trust in the military is declining. Last month, a YouTube video of a dancing Israeli soldier near a bound and blindfolded Palestinian woman went viral on the Internet, further embarrassing the military....

FLASHBACK:

"Israel investigates dancing soldier video" by Associated Press  |  October 6, 2010

JERUSALEM — The Israeli military said yesterday that it was launching an investigation into a YouTube video that appears to show an Israeli soldier dancing around a blindfolded Palestinian woman.

In the video, the woman, wearing a Muslim headscarf and long black robe, stands along a wall as the soldier wiggles around her in an Oriental style of dancing and makes suggestive gestures. Arabic music blares in the background, and the woman barely moves.

The Web clip is the latest in a series of embarrassing videos and photos uploaded to social networking sites like YouTube and Facebook that show Israeli soldiers mocking Palestinians.

It's what RACIST SUPREMACISM BREEDS, folks!

If authentic, it would be the first specifically to humiliate a Palestinian woman, a deeply sensitive issue in Arab society.

Notice how the Zionist War Daily ALWAYS QUALIFIES Zionist war crimes but NEVER alleged Muslim atrocites?

In August, a young former soldier posted pictures of herself in uniform, posing in front of handcuffed, blindfolded Palestinian prisoners on her Facebook page.

Yeah, I linked that above to show it is a pattern.

Earlier this year, a video showed soldiers dancing while on patrol in a West Bank city....

Gee, Israelis sure like to dance, huh?

I think the Zionist newspaper is mocking us, readers!

Military officials said late yesterday that they were still investigating the matter, and it remained unclear whether the video was even authentic.

Un-f***ing-believable!

We call them newspaper reporters over here.

Military prosecutors can do little if soldiers have already been discharged from the army, which appears to be the case in most incidents, including this one.

Oh, so the authorities ignore or sit on the cases until after... sigh!

Yesh Din, an Israeli rights group, called it a “sickening phenomenon’’ in a letter sent by the organization’s lawyer to military prosecutors demanding a broad criminal investigation.

So is TORTURING CHILDREN

Somehow that never made my Muslim-hating Zionist War Daily.

That is the last I saw of it until today.

The biggest explanation for the declining service rate is the growing number of ultra-Orthodox Jews, who study full time in yeshivas, or religious schools, and are eligible for exemptions from military service....

Oh, so the LAND-STEALING KILLERS are EXEMPT from military service, huh?

Today, the military loses 13 percent of its potential draftees because of ultra-Orthodox exemptions, compared with 4 percent 10 years ago. In 2020, that number is expected to reach 20 percent because of a significantly higher birthrate among the ultra-Orthodox compared with secular Israelis.

Have at it. Hope you destroy yourselves.

To help persuade more ultra-Orthodox to volunteer, the Israeli military is expanding its efforts to provide special food, extra time for prayer, and other adjustments to make service compatible with their religious practices.

The Israeli military says its monitoring of Facebook has helped catch 1,000 women lying about their religious background to avoid serving.

I'll never open an account with that spy service.

The army hired investigators two years ago to help stem the increase of draft dodgers and has used Facebook to find evidence of those women lying to avoid conscription.

Then the Israelis must REALLY BE DESPERATE!!

A military official said recently that one woman who said she was a religious Jew posted a photo of herself on Facebook holding a menu from a non-kosher restaurant. Another updated her profile on the Sabbath.

All were brought back to duty.

In the past, officers largely came from secular, elite families from the Tel Aviv area or the collective farms known as kibbutzim.

But today, increasing numbers are observant Jews who tend to be more politically oriented, more committed to the Zionist cause, and more integrated into society than the ultra-Orthodox....

As if the "ultra-Orthodox" are what, committed to peace?

Pfffft!

Now those are the kind of ultra-Orthodox Jews I'd like to read about.

They are not the ones my paper is referring to, are they?
