Slow Saturday Special: TSA Hits $our Note

"US is late on airline regulations on musical instruments" by Joan Lowy |  Associated Press, February 15, 2014

WASHINGTON — Federal transportation regulators are striking a sour note with musicians and their supporters in Congress.

Two years ago, Congress directed the Transportation Department to write regulations requiring airlines to accommodate musicians traveling with their instruments, so that the instruments are not damaged or lost.

Final regulations were due Friday, but the department has not even started writing them.

That's criminal!

What a negligent government.

Where is all the f***ing money going anyway?

Transportation spokeswoman Meghan Keck said the agency has not had enough money to do the work needed to write the regulations.

‘‘We’re working to find funding,’’ she said.

Pfffffffftt!

The department, which regulates airlines on matters that affect consumers, asked for money in this year’s budget for four more staff members to write new regulations but was turned down by Congress....

So they said screw it?

Musicians have long complained that airlines frequently require that instruments be checked as baggage, with the result that they are often damaged or lost....

Or stolen.

It has become a business case study on how social media can harm a company’s image.

Pfft!

You know where you can shove the instrument, thuggish goon.

"Airlines warned about shoe bombs" Associated Press, February 20, 2014

WASHINGTON — The Homeland Security Department has warned airlines that terrorists could try to hide explosives in shoes. It’s the second time in less than three weeks that the government has issued a warning about possible attempts to smuggle explosives on a commercial jetliner.

Homeland Security said Wednesday it regularly shares relevant information with domestic and international partners, but it declined to discuss specifics of a warning sent to airlines.

Because there were none. This was a simple and friendly reminder from the government to reinforce the 9/11 lie and keep you on eggshells so they can search your body cavities.

A US intelligence official said that Homeland Security released a notice to airlines reiterating that liquids, shoes, and certain cosmetics were of concern, all of which are covered under existing security policies.

The latest warning was focused on flights headed to the United States from abroad.

The official said ‘‘something caused DHS concern, but it’s a very low threshold to trigger a warning like this.’’
