"Wash. pair get decades in prison for girl’s death" | Skagit Valley Herald October 30, 2013
MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A Washington couple accused of starving, beating, and forcing their adopted daughter outside as punishment were sentenced Tuesday to decades in prison for her death. Carri and Larry Williams were convicted Sept. 9 of manslaughter in the death of a teenage girl they adopted from Ethiopia. Carri Williams was also found guilty of homicide by abuse.
Hana Williams was found dead May 12, 2011, in the backyard of the family home in Sedro-Woolley, about 60 miles north of Seattle.
The autopsy said she died of hypothermia, with malnutrition and a stomach condition as contributing factors.
So not only was the starvation no different from where she came, it was a lot colder.
Carri Williams was sentenced Tuesday to just under 37 years, the top of the standard sentencing range, by Judge Susan Cook, who said she probably deserved more time in prison, the Skagit Valley Herald reported. Her husband received a sentence of nearly 28 years.
Cook vacated Carri Williams’s manslaughter conviction because she was convicted of homicide by abuse for the same conduct.
Both also were found guilty of assault of a child for punishing a boy they adopted in 2008 from Ethiopia at the same time as Hana.

Too bad the parents didn't work for the CIA. Then the torture and abuse would have been absolved and not been prosecuted.
"Device explodes outside DA’s office" Associated Press November 14, 2013
MEDFORD, Ore. — An explosive device that police say was designed to destroy an Oregon county prosecutor’s office instead blew out windows in a pre-dawn blast Wednesday that did little other damage.
I'm already smelling a false flag or hoax.
The FBI said it was too early to say whether the blast was terrorism-related, but Medford Police Chief Tim George said he considered the explosion a domestic terrorist attack aimed at law enforcement.
Uh-huh. Bad timing, no one hurt, stench.
(Note to NSA: I'm too busy blogging about the sucky Boston Globe to be a 'domestic terror threat' -- as you well know).
No one was hurt when the device fashioned in part from a 5-gallon propane tank blew. Police say it failed to fully detonate.
About 25 federal investigators from the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in Seattle and Portland were coming to lend their expertise to local efforts to gather evidence about the explosive device, which would be crucial to the prosecution, George said.
The red flags on this pile of shit keeping on going up!
After the explosion, a silver-colored propane tank, similar to those used for camping, lay dented on its side in front of the broken windows at the Jackson County prosecutor’s office.
Two windows near the entrance were broken out of the one-story brick building, which is across a quiet neighborhood street from the jail and courthouse. Yellow crime scene tape surrounded the building and evidence markers dotted the parking lot.

"Idaho ends prison privatization test" Associated Press January 04, 2014
BOISE, Idaho — Idaho will take over the operation of its largest prison from one of the nation’s biggest corrections contractors, abruptly ending an experiment with privatization at a facility that has been plagued by understaffing, multiple lawsuits, and allegations of contract fraud.
The state plans to begin running the 2,080-bed Idaho Correctional Center, located just outside Boise, over the next several months, as its $29 million-a-year contract with the Corrections Corporation of America expires on June 30.
The move to end the contract comes months after an Associated Press report raised questions about how the Nashville-based company was staffing the prison, and is part of a larger debate over whether prison privatization works.
I don't like either option, really. State-run stuff sucks, and for-profit corporate governance has failed.
The prison has been the subject of multiple lawsuits alleging rampant violence, understaffing, gang activity, and contract fraud, and some of the lawsuits have resulted in federal court orders to improve conditions.
