"Police said they are investigating a social media posting that suggested Mayor Jorge Elorza’s home be burned down. The threats appeared on a Facebook page last weekend that advocates on behalf of the city’s firefighters and opposes the mayor’s efforts to restructure the Fire Department. The city of Providence and the firefighters union remain deadlocked on salary and overtime issues. Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare confirmed a ‘‘criminal investigation’’ into the posts but would not disclose any other details. A spokesman for the mayor said the city takes the issue ‘‘very seriously.’’ The posts have since been removed."
