"Africans more genetically diverse than others, study says; DNA research sheds new light on human origins" by Washington Post | May 1, 2009

WASHINGTON - The first anatomically modern human beings originated in Africa about 200,000 years ago, and all human beings today are their direct descendants. The study points to an area along the Namibian-South African border, the homeland of the San people, as the starting point for a southwest-to-northeast migratory route through Africa and exiting the continent at about the midpoint of the Red Sea.

Muntaser Ibrahim of the University of Khartoum, said that indigenous people were eager to help the research. "They would like to know about their past as much as everybody else," he said.

As all people would be!
