Plan B

Beyond the realm of possibility, right?

ANKARA, Turkey - Turkey’s army chief unexpectedly met with the prime minister yesterday, officials said, as tension rose between the military and the ruling Islamist-rooted AK Party over a suspected plot to destabilize the government.

A group of senior party members filed a complaint with state prosecutors after the liberal newspaper Taraf reported the military had drawn up a secret plan to stop the AK Party and an influential religious movement from “destroying Turkey’s secular order and replacing it by an Islamist state.’’

The military, whose generals have long been at odds with the AK Party over the country’s direction, has been put on the defensive over the report, which said Muslim preacher Fethullah Gulen was also targeted. A senior navy officer was accused of crafting the plan in April and military prosecutors have been asked to investigate.

Turkey’s military has a history of intervening in the nation’s politics, including staging several coups, although in recent years it has taken a back seat. “The judiciary should swiftly comfort society, working meticulously,’’ Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said in a speech in Parliament.

Taraf said the suspected plot included plans to discredit the AK Party, stir up divisions in the party, and plant weapons and ammunition in houses used by Gulen’s associates.

So they what, moved the operation to
IRAN?!!!!
