The one-sided, pro-tax paper, that's who.
First you need a teaser:
"Rockland voters OK $2.8m override" by Emma Stickgold, Globe Correspondent | June 1, 2009
Bucking a trend in which an increasing number of municipalities have rejected property tax hikes....
Please, please, please, REMEMBER THAT for the FRONT-PAGE PROMO PIECE LATER!
The town approved overrides would tack an additional $427 in taxes to the average home assessed at $296,500.
Wow!
No homes like that around here (well, maybe a few on the outskirts and buried in the hills).
The overrides will allow Jefferson Elementary School to stay open and spare the town's library from imminent closure, as well as the Council on Aging.
Yeah, never you mind all that tax loot the state is pissing away!
HIGHER TAXES SAVES SERVICES -- except THEY GET CUT, too!!!!!
The vote was expected to be very close, but in the end, 2,924 voted in favor of the override question involving the schools, while 1,252 voted against it. The rest of the questions had a similar result....
Little electoral stench in Rockland, MA?

"Property tax hikes winning support; Despite hardships, programs preserved" by Lisa Kocian, Globe Staff | June 12, 2009
In a baffling trend playing out against an abysmal economy, voters have approved property tax increases in at least 11 communities around Boston in recent weeks, reaching into their own pockets to preserve libraries, schools, and public safety services.
As the STATE POURS YOUR TAX MONEY into AGENDA-PUSHING LOSERS, KILLERS, and their OWN POCKETS!
And WHICH DAY was the LIE, you AGENDA-PUSHING bastards?!!!
Un-frikkin'-real!
Among them was the town of Rockland, which has passed only one other property tax override since voters enacted Proposition 2 1/2 more than 25 years ago. Late last month, as people around the state watched every penny, not to mention every tax dollar, Rockland voted to raise its property taxes to save an elementary school and a library.
At least five communities have also rejected property tax increases in recent weeks, but the passage by 11 other communities underscores the impact of budget cuts on cities and towns....
BUT the ONE-SIDED GLOBE is going to PUSH the INCREASES!!!!
Pffft! Doing it to yourselves, bay Staters?
You guys really dat 'tucking 'too-pid?
Both wealthy and not-so-wealthy towns approved the increases....
Chip Faulkner, associate director of Citizens for Limited Taxation, shaking his head in disbelief: "People are gluttons for punishment."

And NOW, the KICKER!There have been far fewer overrides attempted this spring compared with past years, in part due to the recession....
But when they ARE COMING UP, we win!
Yeah, IGNORE the REJECTIONS and the DIMINISHED ATTEMPTS, Globe!
Just PUSH THAT PRO-TAX AGENDA in your AGENDA-PUSHING WAY!
And you guys wonder why you are tanking. Enough that I can tolerate this crap; most people won't stick it out this far. They just stop buying and stop reading
Faulkner warned that tax increases could weaken the already shaky housing market. "It's a surprise that they're doing it and it's a shame because I think what it might do is accelerate more people moving out of Massachusetts."
That's what the comments all over the Globe seem to indicate.
A few of the communities, such as Belmont and Milton, are relatively affluent, which usually means property values remain fairly constant....
Yeah, SOMEHOW, the REAL RICH REMAIN UNTOUCHED by it all!

Meanwhile, LOOK at WHOSE LOOT they want to PUT ASIDE!!!!
"Lawmakers look to capital gains tax to bolster savings" by Casey Ross, Globe Staff | June 17, 2009
The economic downturn has produced a record decline in the taxes Massachusetts collects from taxpayers on their investment profits, a $1.6 billion drop-off that is largely responsible for the worst fiscal crisis to hit state government in decades.
UNREAL! And THEY are the ones getting the BREAKS!!!!!!
Governor Deval Patrick’s administration and lawmakers are moving to protect the state against wild swings in income by diverting more of the tax proceeds into savings.
As he TAKES an AXE to STATE SERVICES and RAISES TAXES!!!!!!!!
So WHOSE SLUSH FUND is being SET UP, guv?
In boom years, that would mean spending hundreds of millions of dollars less on priorities such as education reform and transportation upgrades. Instead, that money would be put away to serve as a cushion in bad times, such as now.
WE GOT PROBLEMS RIGHT NOW!!
What if we DON'T HAVE a TOMORROW?
Massachusetts is especially reliant on capital gains collections because of its high concentration of financial firms, wealthy taxpayers, and white-collar workers who receive stock as compensation.
In the 'liberal' state. I'm just filled with sadness.
A study last winter by the research organization MassINC found Massachusetts ranks third in its dependence on capital gains, behind Oregon and Connecticut....
This is not a new problem: The state faced similar capital gains declines during economic downturns in 1987 and again in 2001, and each time it was forced to impose years’ worth of spending cuts and tax increases....

Why are they STILL THERE, Bay Staters?
“It has a narcotic effect on spending in the good years,’’ Gregory Torres, president of MassINC, said of capital gains. “But one faces the equivalent of withdrawal in the bad years.’’
Translation: STATE GOVERNMENT = DRUG ADDICT with the DRUG being TAXES!!!
In 1987, state government raised taxes by $1 billion, cut another $1 billion from public services, and borrowed $1 billion just to keep the lights on....
And with the BIG PIT, T, Turnpike, et al, we are in WAY WORSE SHAPE NOW!
And NOW the state wants to SIT on BUSINESS TAXES!!!!
How do you take your bowl of breakfast, Bay Stater?
