U.S. Caves to Kyrgyzstan Extortion

I'm glad you had the money to spare, Americans. Not like you need it for anything.

"US, Kyrgyzstan reach deal on use of critical air base; Plan is boost for operations in Afghanistan" by Leila Saralayeva, Associated Press | June 24, 2009

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan - The former Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan tentatively approved a deal yesterday that should allow the United States to continue shipping military hardware and troops crucial to operations in Afghanistan through an air base in the Central Asian state.

US forces had in February been ordered out of the Manas air base by a presidential decree that stunned Washington and drew suspicion that Kyrgyzstan was acting under the influence of Russia, which staunchly opposes Western military presence near its borders.

Good thing no one is acting under American influence and killing their own people because of it, 'eh, Pakistan?

But the deal approved yesterday by a Kyrgyz parliamentary committee apparently would allow the American base to remain open and continue to be used by US forces to transport weaponry and ammunition. That should provide a much-needed boost as the US-led coalition ramps up its military operations against Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan.

The deal’s biggest change is likely to be the cost - more than three times the current $17.4 million annual rent for the base.... Besides its function for troops and armor transit, the Manas base is used to refuel tanker planes that administer air-to-air refueling of allied jets circling Afghan skies - and is also a key medical evacuation point.

Yeah, thanks Kyrgyztan for ALLOWING the U.S. to SLAUGHTER more INNOCENT AFGHANS!!!!

US forces have had access to Manas, outside Bishkek, since 2001. The base became even more important to the Afghan war effort after neighboring Uzbekistan evicted US troops from a base there. Militants have stepped up attacks on the main route for US military supplies to Afghanistan through Pakistan - although the military maintains this has little impact on its operations.

Then WHY the BASE so IMPORTANT?

And HOW COME we RARELY HEAR about the SUPPLY LINE ATTACKS, MSM?

Don't you get TIRED of LYING and HIDING THINGS?

Analysts, meanwhile, say Russia, which grudgingly accepted the agreement, may have approved it in the hope of US concessions on issues that have badly strained its relations with Washington, such as NATO’s possible expansion eastward and a planned US missile defense complex in central Europe....

At least we STILL have those to START a WAR with Russia!

President Kurmanbek Bakiyev shocked Washington in February when he announced that US forces would be evicted from Manas, saying Washington was not paying enough, among other concerns.

So $50 MILLION was the PRICE, huh?

The announcement followed within hours of Moscow’s pledge of more than $2 billion in aid, loans, and investment for Kyrgyzstan.

Good thing WE don't BUY PEOPLE OFF, huh, 'murkn? Newspapers suck!

Yesterday, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Kadyrbek Sarbayev said his country is concerned about the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and the possibility that it could destabilize the entire Central Asia region.

The NEO-CON PLAN in ACTION!!!!

That is a reversal of the position in February, when official statements cited improving Afghan security as a reason for closing Manas.

Hey, if it’s official, it's a LIE!

President Obama recently sent a message of thanks to Bakiyev for Kyrgyzstan’s support of US-led military operations in Afghanistan.

Just like Bush would have!

"Kyrgyzstan lawmakers back US base" by Associated Press | June 26, 2009

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan - Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament unanimously approved a deal yesterday allowing the United States to continue using an air base crucial to military operations in Afghanistan, sharply shifting course months after ordering American forces out by August.

Lawmakers voted 75-0 to ratify the agreement, providing a much-needed boost to the US-led coalition as it ramps up military operations against Taliban and Al Qaeda militants and struggles to maintain other supply routes into Afghanistan. Five deputies abstained.

But the military said that had nothing to do with it.

Approval was expected after Kyrgyz authorities announced a deal Tuesday to let the United States use the Manas air base as a transit center at more than triple the previous rent.

How come we never get an actual $$$ figure, obfuscating MSM?

Despite changes to the wording, the deal apparently will continue to allow the United States to transport weaponry, ammunition, and troops, as well as non-lethal military supplies....

I weep for the Afghans who are going to be under that hardware!

And don't worry, don't worry; there will be NO PEACE with Russia:

"Russia offers nuclear cuts, objections to US proposal" by Clifford J. Levy, New York Times | June 21, 2009

MOSCOW - President Dmitri A. Medvedev, issuing a warning in advance of the summit, also reiterated Russian objections to an anti-missile system proposed by the United States. He indicated that it had to be scrapped for the two countries to make any progress on arms control....

Not happening.

Later yesterday, the Kremlin released a statement from Medvedev that emphasized that Russia would not move forward if the United States did not cancel its plan for an anti-missile system based in Poland and the Czech Republic. “The reductions that we are offering are possible only if the United States addresses Russian concerns,’’ he said.

We don't address anyone's -- except Israel's -- so that's going nowhere.
