Facebook
, the city’s latest online crime-fighting tool, along with Twitter, in the hunt for stolen bikes.

I'm glad I'm flying only a blog, folks. Fuck that data-mining s***!

Explains the MSM hype though, doesn't it?

When a bicycle is reported stolen, officials at the city’s Stolen Bikes Boston program will instantly alert fans on Facebook and followers on Twitter.

So the Boston cops got time to cruise the strip, bust brothels, hang out in bars, buy drugs, and worry about cellphones while ROBBERIES, RAPES, and MURDERS go UNSOLVED!!!

And that "good Samaritan" you thought you saw?

Earlier this month, police wrapped up a 30-day sting involving plainclothes officers mimicking tourists and other pedestrians. Once they were panhandled, they essentially became victims guaranteed to show up for a trial

And now they are worried about bikes? Well, NOT REALLY!

Authorities say they have tapped the social networking sites because they get information out quickly to vast numbers of people and can make it easier to recover stolen bikes.

“If we can get the word out as fast as possible to as many people as possible, then we dramatically increase the ability to recover these bikes,’’ said Nicole Freedman, who directs the city’s bike program. She said the mayor’s office came up with the idea a month ago, as part of Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s effort to make Boston a world-class biking city.

The way it works is simple: The program also instantly notifies the police department, which is following the bike website on Twitter, and can then notify its 6,000 Twitter followers.

John Daley, Boston police deputy superintendent who oversees the department’s 911 operations:

“We in real time use these social networks to get information out to people, and they can reply and let us know what they see.’’

I thought this was all just to catch "terrorists?"

And now, Americans?

Guess I'll just drive the car wherever I go then.

Why risk getting a bike stolen?
