"Patrick accuses zoo officials of scare tactics; Rules out killing of animals" by Matt Collette, Globe Correspondent | July 13, 2009

Governor Deval Patrick yesterday accused Zoo New England officials of creating a false and inflammatory scare with their warning that state budget cuts may force them to close two Greater Boston zoos and euthanize some animals.

“As a supporter of the zoo and a parent who has visited often, the governor is disappointed to learn that Zoo New England has responded to this difficult but unavoidable budget cut by spreading inaccurate and incendiary information,’’ Kyle Sullivan, a spokesman for the governor, said in a statement....

Why not? Every other damn advocate is out there screaming.

Why should ANIMALS have to STAY SILENT?

Zoo officials declined to comment on Patrick’s remarks yesterday. They also canceled a public event to welcome two French Poitou donkeys to the Franklin Park facility in honor of Bastille Day tomorrow. John Linehan, Zoo New England chief executive, was scheduled to attend the event. The current problems of Zoo New England, which runs Franklin Park Zoo in Dorchester and Stone Zoo in Stoneham, stem from Patrick’s decision June 29 to veto $4 million in funding from the nonprofit’s annual budget. That reduces the state appropriation by 61 percent, to $2.5 million.

On Friday zoo officials released a statement saying the funding reduction might require them to shutter both zoos. Then on Saturday, they issued a statement that said state bureaucrats - and not animal-care professionals - would be responsible for deciding whether some animals would have to be killed if the zoos closed....

The two zoos have 1,300 animals of 260 species, including gorillas, tigers, capybaras, and peacocks. It employs 165 full-time employees, 65 teen employees, and 25 interns. Sullivan, the governor’s spokesman, also said yesterday that Zoo New England is responsible for finding a way to keep its gates open....

At least one visitor to the Franklin Park Zoo yesterday suggested the operator solve the budget crisis on its own. “I wonder why the Franklin Park Zoo doesn’t raise their prices so they can support themselves,’’ said Emanuel Achidiev, 28. “They shouldn’t have to rely on the state.’’

"Leaders push to override zoos’ cuts; Patrick rips statements about impact of his veto" by Matt Viser, Globe Staff | July 14, 2009

Governor Deval Patrick personally blasted zoo officials for circulating apparently false information that animals could be euthanized for lack of money....

While legislative leaders were openly championing an override, zoo officials were resolutely silent, answering no questions, even as national zoo executives dismissed the notion that zoo animals might killed. Patrick, in two separate press conferences, was visibly frustrated with Zoo New England, which runs the Franklin Park and Stone zoos. He urged lawmakers not to override his veto and criticized zoo officials for what he described as their unhelpful, irresponsible, and sensationalized response to budget cuts.

This from a guy who USED FEAR to RAISE TAXES!!!! Where is that TAX LOOT GOING anyway, because IT SURE AS HELL ain't going to the ZOO!

“I do think that the public needs to know that the claim that animals in the zoo are going to be euthanized was false,” Patrick said in what were his first comments after leaving criticism over the weekend to his aides. “And I think, frankly, the zoo is going to have to take some responsibility for that.”

They did not, at least publicly. When a Globe reporter visited the offices of zoo president John Linehan yesterday, he declined to meet, instead sending out a communications aide who said that Linehan would have no comment and referring questions to the zoos’ private public relations firm, Marlo Marketing/Communications. Marlo Fogelman, the head of the firm, declined to comment despite repeated phone calls and a visit by the same reporter.

Gee, LOOK at the GLOBE RUNNING AFTER 'EM!!!

When was the last time the Globe was SO DOGGED in PURSUIT of a STORY, huh?

See: Jewish Media Protects Jewish Philanderer

Why weren't you so dogged there?

Last night, Fogelman issued a brief written statement from Linehan that said: “We are working very hard with the state Legislature and the governor’s office to resolve this very complex issue, and we’re hopeful of a positive outcome. We are grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support we have received.”

Meanwhile, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, a national group of which Zoo New England is a member, said it would be highly unusual for any zoo to euthanize animals because of budget cuts.

“It’s not part of modern zoological practice, except in very rare instances, to use euthanasia as a population management tool,’’ said Steve Feldman, a spokesman for the association. “It would take time to find homes for these animals, because times are tough all over. But I think the notion that animals would be euthanized en masse is incorrect.’’

Is it just me, or is the Globe going out of its way to one-side this thing? And THEY are the ones who STARTED THIS with their FRONT-PAGE TREATMENT of the thing! And the Globe's sources are Jewish or crpto-Jews, aren't they? No wonder I barf over their "journalistic style."

Btw, the guy said it COULD and DOES HAPPEN, so WTF?

Zoos across the country have been going through deep cutbacks as a part of the recession, even as attendance has soared as families stay closer to home and look for cheap entertainment. But no other accredited zoo has closed down as a result of the cuts, according to Feldman.

Yup, WHY AIN'T THEY MAKING IT? State tax loot going to Jewish interests?

At the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, Mo., money-saving moves included getting rid of two herds of antelope and eliminating a group of lemurs that were deemed unfit for public display because they slept most of the day.

What does THAT MEAN? Sounds lie DEAD to ME!

Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago required a gorilla to go without her favorite snack of frozen blueberries. “Her diet is not going to be compromised by eliminating it,” said Sharon Dewar, spokeswoman for the zoo, adding that the chief executive officer took a 10 percent pay cut.

I'd like to see some of those fat hog elites take a diet reduction!

The Franklin Park and Stone zoos have dealt with major funding cuts before....

And they should be able to again. The only ones who don't have to are those SPECIAL INTEREST I LINKED, people!

Patrick, who has been portrayed negatively in national headlines, made a strong attempt yesterday to avoid further political fallout.

HA-HA-HA-HA! Your beloved little stinkshit guverner taking the DESERVED BEATING NATIONALLY!!! That's why the Globe is out woofing!

He initially addressed a small group of reporters, then in the late afternoon held a much larger press conference.

And the press came a-runnin'!

“I do want to be absolutely clear about one thing: Nobody is talking about euthanizing any animals,’’ Patrick said. “I have to tell you that I am disappointed by some of what I have heard coming out of Zoo New England, and their exaggeration of the effect of these reductions in their budget.’’ He added that the state was asking zoo officials to do no more than any other state agency “and frankly what most families in the commonwealth are having to ask of themselves, and that is to learn to live within more limited means for the time being.’’

The guy's INSULTING ARROGANCE knows NO BOUNDS!!

Patrick said there were a variety of ways for zoo officials to save or generate money - including eliminating discounts or free passes, or consolidating - but he did not endorse any approach. He said it would be unwise for the Legislature to override his veto of the funding.

Yup, RAISE TAXES is ALL THIS GUY KNOWS!!!!!

“Essentially what Zoo New England is saying is, ‘No matter what the state of the economy or the state fiscal situation, we should be held harmless,’ ’’ he said.

Oh, no, guberner, WE KNOW WHO is UNTOUCHABLE in this state! Go TOSS MORE $$$ to Hollywood and biotech, you s***ter!

Even as zoo officials declined to answer questions, they did take the time to update their website, asking zoo fans for donations and to contact lawmakers on their behalf....

Yup, and the GLOBE was NONE TO HAPPY about the fact that the zoo DIDN'T WANT TO TALK TO THEM! And the PERSONAL, PETTY, AGENDA-PUSHING VINDICTIVENESS SHOWS in the REPORT!?

But that's not all
:

"The state’s budget zoo

GOVERNOR PATRICK WAS asking for political trouble when he vetoed $4 million in state subsidies for the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston and the Stone Zoo in Stoneham. And sure enough, the zoos’ parent organization, Zoo New England, outplayed the governor in the public relations game. Over the weekend, the organization put out statements saying both zoos would have to close if the state offered only $2.5 million - and insinuating that state bureaucrats would end up euthanizing cuddly animals. The scare tactics worked, as House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray vowed yesterday to restore the subsidies.

I don't even know where to begin.

Scare tactics work all the time, huh, you war-criminal piece of lying shit?

Yes, we like animals, too. But the state’s current budget will certainly cause pain to living, breathing human beings. We only wish that a $10 million reduction in prescription drugs for the elderly, for instance, caused half the indignation that greeted the potential loss of zoo money.

I KNOW WHERE YOU COULD GET $10 MILLION EASY! Go ASK HOLLYWOOD!!

As lawmakers consider today which of Patrick’s budget vetoes to override, we hope they’ll look both at the bottom line and at human needs. When Patrick signed the budget late last month, he also rejected a number of other spending provisions to make room for a $70 million healthcare program for legal (read: tax-paying) immigrants....

At that point, I decided to ax it. I had enough.
