Poisoning Our Kids: From Potions to Pills to Playgrounds

Please see: Was AIDS Man-Made?

"Scientists shift vaccine strategy in fight against AIDS virus; Hopeful results found with gene injected in muscle" by Randolph E. Schmid, Associated Press | May 18, 2009

WASHINGTON - Stymied in their attempts to develop a vaccine, some scientists are now trying to outflank the HIV/AIDS virus.

Researchers have not been able to develop vaccines that cause the body's immune system to battle the virus, so they are testing inserting a gene into the muscle that can cause it to produce protective antibodies. The new method worked in mice and now has proved successful in monkeys, researchers reported yesterday in the online edition of the journal Nature Medicine....

That doesn't mean an AIDS vaccine for people is in the wings. Years of work may lie ahead before a product is ready for human use....

Yeah, too much $$$ to made off the drugs.

I mean, they can get a swine flu vaccine in a few months but.... ??

Dr. Beatrice Hahn, an AIDS researcher at the University of Alabama at Birmingham: "It shows thinking outside the box is a good idea and can yield results, and we need perhaps more of these nonconventional approaches," she added.

According to the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, AIDS is one of the most devastating pandemics. More than 20 million people have died and about 33 million are living with HIV....

Including KIDS!

"Group says infants needlessly get HIV; Most of world's infected mothers lack access to drug" by Marilyn Chase, Bloomberg | May 22, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO - The group blamed governments and global health groups for poor coordination, funding gaps, and valuing "wealthy women over poor."

Approximately 33 million people in the world have HIV/AIDS and 2.7 million people a year become infected, according to the United Nations....

Most women with access to prevention get the cheapest possible regimen for themselves and their babies - a single pill of the drug nevirapine, according to the report. Nevirapine cuts transmission to babies by 40 percent and may also spark the rise of drug-resistant strains of the AIDS virus, the report said. Triple-drug combination therapy that is more effective and less likely to cause drug resistance costs less than $100 a year per patient....

WTF?!! Trillions for WARS and BANKS when a PITTANCE would CARE fior all these women and kids?

Oh, the GLOBAL POPULATION REDUCTION PLAN looks ALL TOO REAL NOW!

WASHINGTON - Three blockbuster psychiatric drugs approved for adults also appear to work in adolescents, though federal health officials have concerns about exposing younger patients to the drugs' side effects.

The Food and Drug Administration is reviewing drugs from AstraZeneca PLC, Eli Lilly & Co., and Pfizer Inc. for use in patients between ages of 10 to 17. The drugs - already approved to treat schizophrenia and bipolar mania in adults - had combined sales of more than $7.4 billion last year, according to IMS Health.

And THAT, cha-ching, is the IMPORTANT THING!

To hell with the health of the kids!

With only two anti-psychotic drugs currently approved for younger patients, a positive decision for the three drugs would significantly increase competition in the space - and expand sales of products that already are big sellers.

They will approve; I guarantee it.

Anti-psychotic drugs were the top-selling group of prescription medications in the United States last year with sales of $14.6 billion, according to the healthcare analysis firm....

No wonder Americans are so zonked out.

FDA reviewers said yesterday that they were wary of exposing youngsters to the drugs' side effects, including weight gain and high blood sugar, "because they may be exposed for many decades."

Then we can turn around and tell them they are obese and unhealthy -- and give 'em MORE DRUGS!!!

Many doctors already prescribe the medications to children and adolescents, although regulators have not officially cleared that use. Physicians are free to prescribe medicines as they see fit....

Unless, of course, it is a POT PRESCRIPTION!!!

Still think doctors and and the government aren't in Big Pharma's pocket?

"FDA panel approves drugs for children; Psychiatric use deemed effective" by Matthew Perrone, Associated Press | June 11, 2009

ADELPHI, Md. - Advisers to the Food and Drug Administration said yesterday that three blockbuster psychiatric drugs appear safe and effective for children and adolescents, despite side effects that can increase the risk of diabetes.

Yeah, they are looking out for the kids' health all right!

The FDA's panel of psychiatric experts voted to approve the use of drugs from AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, and Pfizer for treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in patients ages 10 to 17....

Would YOU want YOUR KID on those suicide-causing pills?

Their side effects include weight gain, high blood sugar, and sleepiness.

Then they turn around and tell the kid he/she is fat and lazy!!!!

A positive FDA decision will expand the use of drugs that already make up the top-selling class of prescriptions in the United States, with 2008 sales of $14.6 billion, according to healthcare analysis firm IMS Health.

And we know that is what is really important.

The panel - mainly comprised of psychiatrists - largely brushed aside concerns from patient and consumer advocates.... Schizophrenia affects about 2.4 million Americans and is characterized by hallucinations, delusions, and social withdrawal, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.

So what is the government's excuse?

About 5.7 million Americans experience bipolar disorder, which causes rapid mood swings and shifts in energy.

Which could be anything, but here, take the pill.

Of course, the FDA is LOOKING OUT for the HEALTH of YOUR CHILDREN, right?

WASHINGTON - The Food and Drug Administration is reviewing its conclusion from last year that a much-debated chemical used in baby bottles and food containers is safe for infants....

FDA commissioner Margaret Hamburg has pledged to restore confidence in the agency by putting science first in its decision-making process.

I've heard a lot about that from this administration, but so far.... pfffffft!

I mean, EVEN HARVARD KNOWS!!!!

The ONLY ONES DRAGGING THEIR FEET on this is the STATE!

The FDA ruled last year that trace amounts of bisphenol-A that leach out of bottles and food packaging are not dangerous. But the agency's own advisers faulted the report for relying on a small number of industry-sponsored studies, and consumer advocates said it ignored dozens of animal studies suggesting the chemical can interfere with infant hormone levels....

Just the FDA doing its job and looking out for youuuuuu!

At least their is still that OLD STANDBY for kids: PLAY!

"EPA reevaluating the use of recycled tires in playgrounds; Potential health risks raise concern" by Rita Beamish, Associated Press | June 5, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO - For years, the Environmental Protection Agency has endorsed the recycling of ground-up tires to cushion the surfaces of children's playgrounds and sports fields - the same material used for the Obama family's new White House playground.

Yeah, I thought that was a GREAT IDEA when they first brought it up (like ethanol -- and we know how that has turned out)!

Now, the agency is having second thoughts.

Huh?

EPA scientists are worried they don't have enough information about potential health risks from chemicals in the rubber material, which is popular because it decreases playground injuries and is low maintenance and weatherproof.... Communities from New Jersey to Oregon have raised concerns about children touching, swallowing or inhaling lead, metals, and chemicals like benzene, zinc, and breathable particles from synthetic fields and play yards....

Yeah, too bad NO ONE THOUGHT of that BEFORE, huh?

Of course, SOMEONE PROBABLY DID but was CASTIGATED for it (think global-warming 'deniers').

The Synthetic Turf Council, an advocacy trade group, says laboratory-based claims of toxicity don't reflect actual conditions. "The science is clear that synthetic turf crumb rubber infill fields do not present a human health or environmental risk," said Rick Doyle, president of the group.

I expect to see 'bamer's kids running around then!

Update:

As if you needed more proof....

On into ADULTHOOD with the POISONS!

"Panel backs painkiller limits" by Catherine Larkin, Bloomberg News | July 1, 2009

WASHINGTON - The prescription painkillers Percocet and Vicodin should be banned and use of Tylenol, sold over the counter, should be reduced because the ingredient acetaminophen is linked to liver damage, US advisers said.

Outside advisers to the Food and Drug Administration voted 20 to 17 yesterday in Adelphi, Md., for the ban on Percocet and Vicodin, which also contain a narcotic. The panel agreed earlier that Johnson & Johnson’s Tylenol should be given in lower doses than now recommended and the extra-strength version should be sold by prescription only.

Why so CLOSE a VOTE? I thought they were supposed to looking after our heath.

Acetaminophen, an aspirin alternative in use for five decades to reduce pain and fever, has been a leading cause of liver injury for more than a decade, the FDA said. The agency under President Obama is “taking a harder look at safety’’ than in previous administrations, said Les Funtleyder, a healthcare analyst at Miller Tabak & Co. in New York.

Pffft! WTF?!!!!

“The reality is we’ve known for some time that Tylenol plus alcohol is potentially damaging to livers, and we’ve also known that way too much is damaging to livers,’’ he said. “It’s not a huge surprise.’’

And yet it was LEFT on the SHELVES all this time by the government that luuuuuvvvvs you and wants to "protect" you!!!!!

The advisers represented three committees that give recommendations to the FDA. The agency isn’t bound by what the panel says. Vicodin, sold by Abbott Laboratories, and its generic equivalents are the most popular drug in the United States, with 124 million prescriptions last year, according to IMS Health Inc., a data research company. Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc. sells Percocet.

I HATE prescription drugs and AVOIUD THEM at all costs!

Acetaminophen is a leading cause of acute liver failure....

Limiting access to acetaminophen may inadvertently lead people to switch to ibuprofen, which has its own safety risks including gastrointestinal bleeding....

Oh, great!!!!

Got any other pills in your bag, doc?

Tylenol Elixir for children was introduced in 1955 as the first aspirin-free pain reliever, according to J&J’s website. Acetaminophen is now recommended by medical groups as a first-line treatment for bone and muscle pain in the elderly, osteoarthritis of the hip or knee, and in people with heart disease or ulcers.

Translation: They are KILLING YOU as they are "helping" you to live!

Over-the-counter drugs that combine the painkiller with decongestants, aspirin, caffeine, or other medicines represent about half of all acetaminophen sales, the FDA said. These products include Tylenol Cold, Bayer AG’s Midol, and Novartis AG’s Excedrin.

Wyeth disputed J&J’s assertion that reports of side effects would increase if consumers switched to over-the-counter ibuprofen products such as its Advil painkiller.

That's what I take when and if....

The Madison, N.J.-based company urged the FDA to leave acetaminophen combinations on the market and toughen regulatory standards to match those already required for products with ibuprofen or naproxen, another anti-inflammatory medicine.

But they care about YOU, not $$$$$!
