"Monthlong State Police sting nets drugs, guns; 369 arrested across Mass." by John R. Ellement, Globe Staff | July 8, 2009
In Fitchburg, State Police interrupted a drug deal allegedly involving a Latin Kings gang member and grabbed a gun and 8 grams of cocaine. In Lawrence, they led a sting that nabbed a ring trafficking in stolen construction equipment.
Legalize and tax the crap already.
In all, during a monthlong effort dubbed “Operation Guardian,’’ State Police made 369 arrests, seized four firearms and a variety of drugs, and possibly interrupted a shooting as it was about to happen.
“This operation was a real surge,’’ Colonel Mark Delaney, commander of the State Police, said in a telephone interview yesterday. “We wanted to get in there early and set a tone that criminal activity is not going to be tolerated.’’
Unless it's banker looting and war profiteers.
The specialized units of the State Police - drugs, fugitives, gangs, and auto thefts - ramped up investigations and patrols in Boston, Brockton, Fitchburg, Lawrence, New Bedford, Springfield, and other communities across the state.
Delaney assigned 80 troopers to the project, which meant about 10,000 hours was dedicated to the operation. State Police spent $60,000 on 900 hours of overtime, officials said....
One of its better-known units, the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, drew up lists of people with pending warrants.... Delaney said he plans to pursue investigations that began during Operation Guardian and will scour his budget for overtime money to push for another effort, possibly later this year.
But they won't give the cops extra pay for college and are laying them off!
Sig Heil!

So what is with the police wailing poverty then?
WASHINGTON - The nation’s police departments are clamoring for an unprecedented amount of federal aid to forestall big local tax hikes or the possible layoff of nearly 40,000 police officers - enough to staff the entire New York City department.
When President Obama signed the economic stimulus bill earlier this year, $1 billion was set aside to help local and state police avoid layoffs or keep their police academy classes intact.
The response has been staggering: Departments applied for more than $8.3 billion in aid, meaning only a fraction of the demand can be met....

Yeah, but the Boston cops got time to cruise the strip, bust brothels, hang out in bars, buy drugs, and worry about cellphones while ROBBERIES, RAPES, and MURDERS go UNSOLVED!!!
And that "good Samaritan" you thought you saw?
“Earlier this month, police wrapped up a 30-day sting involving plainclothes officers mimicking tourists and other pedestrians. Once they were panhandled, they essentially became victims guaranteed to show up for a trial”
