"Clean water laws neglected, at a cost" by Charles Duhigg, New York Times | September 13, 2009

NEW YORK - Jennifer Hall-Massey knows not to drink the tap water in her home near Charleston, W.Va.

In fact, her entire family tries to avoid any contact with the water. Her youngest son has scabs on his arms, legs, and chest where the bathwater - polluted with lead, nickel, and other heavy metals - caused painful rashes. Many of his brother’s teeth were capped to replace enamel that had been eaten away.

Can you IMAGINE what that is doing to your INSIDES?!!!!

Neighbors apply special lotions after showering because their skin burns. Tests show that their tap water contains arsenic, barium, lead, manganese, and other chemicals at concentrations federal regulators say could contribute to cancer and damage the kidneys and nervous system.

“How can we get digital cable and Internet in our homes, but not clean water?’’ said Hall-Massey, a senior accountant at one of the state’s largest banks. She and her husband, Charles, do not live in some remote corner of Appalachia. Charleston, the state capital, is less than 17 miles from her home. “How is this still happening today?’’ she asked.

Banksters and wars as far as I can figure.

When Hall-Massey and 264 neighbors sued nine nearby coal companies, accusing them of putting dangerous waste into local water supplies, their lawyer did not have to look far for evidence. As required by state law, some of the companies had disclosed in reports to regulators that they were pumping into the ground illegal concentrations of chemicals - the same pollutants that flowed from residents’ taps.

You see? POLLUTION is WAY MORE of a threat than fart mist!

But state regulators never fined or punished those companies for breaking those pollution laws.

Yes, there are LAWS for the RABBLE, and then there are laws.....

This pattern is not limited to West Virginia. Almost four decades ago, Congress passed the Clean Water Act to force polluters to disclose the toxins they dump into waterways and to give regulators the power to fine or jail offenders. States have passed pollution statutes of their own.

But.... in the last five years alone, chemical factories, manufacturing plants, and other workplaces have violated water pollution laws more than half a million times. The violations range from failing to report emissions to dumping toxins at concentrations regulators say might contribute to cancer, birth defects and other illnesses.

Is it SAFE to TURN ON that TAP, America?

However, the vast majority of those polluters have escaped punishment. State officials have repeatedly ignored obvious illegal dumping, and the Environmental Protection Agency, which can prosecute polluters when states fail to act, has often declined to intervene.

Why would they? They sent the 9/11 workers into that toxic stew and told them it was safe.

The new EPA administrator, Lisa P. Jackson, said that strengthening water protections is among her top priorities.

"Dangerous germs found on beaches" by Associated Press | September 13, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO - Dangerous staph bacteria have been found in sand and water for the first time at five public beaches along the coast of Washington, and scientists think the state is not the only one with the problem.

Oh, no, I know I guy who just got back from the beach and he ain't feeling to good!

The germ MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, was once rarely seen outside of hospitals but increasingly is spreading elsewhere. The germ, which causes skin infections as well as pneumonia, is spread through human contact.

WASHINGTON - A study has found that showerheads can harbor bacteria that come spraying into your face when you wash....

One wonders how people have made it out of the shower alive all these years.

What kind of bacteria, huh?

I guess it's better to NOT WASH, 'eh?

Researchers at the University of Colorado tested 45 showers in five states as part of a larger study of the microbiology of air and water in homes, schools, and public buildings....

Oh, well, 45 showers in 5 states. That settles it.

In general, is it dangerous to take showers? “Probably not, if your immune system is not compromised in some way,’’ lead author Norman R. Pace says. “But it’s like anything else - there is a risk associated with it.’’

Oh, COME ON!!!!

You TAKE a RISK when you GET OUT OF BED!!

You take a risk when you EAT SOMETHING!

You take a risk when you CONSUME a BREAKFAST BOWL of S*** from the Boston Globe!!!!

The researchers offer suggestions for the wary, such as getting all-metal showerheads, which are more difficult for microbes to cling to. Still, showerheads are full of nooks and crannies, making them hard to clean, the researchers note, and the microbes come back even after treatment with bleach....

Gee, I've showered for years. How come I'm not dead?

Studies by the National Jewish Hospital in Denver suggest that increases in pulmonary infections in the United States in recent decades from species like M. avium may be linked to people taking more showers and fewer baths, according to Pace.

Oh, no, you HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! Some dirty joos study said this?

You know, I would PREFER NOT to LIE in my OWN FILTH!

That doesn't seem very healthy!!!! What a s*** study!!!

Symptoms of infection can include tiredness, a persistent, dry cough, shortness of breath, and weakness, he said.

That could be ANYTHING!!!

Showerheads were sampled at houses, apartment buildings, and public places in New York, Illinois, Colorado, Tennessee, and North Dakota....

I still don't trust my showerhead now.

I'm looking up at it all the time in there now.
