"House approves transferring Guantanamo detainees to US" by Andrew Taylor, Associated Press | October 16, 2009
WASHINGTON - .... They saw little political risk in yesterday’s vote.
“It’s a nonissue. Inside the [Washington] Beltway stuff,’’ said Representative Dan Maffei, a New York Democrat. “People care about jobs, the economy, health care.’’
“I haven’t had one person ask me about Guantánamo,’’ said Representative Baron Hill, an Indiana Democrat. He said he does “not in the least’’ fear it as an issue in next year’s elections....
I hate to admit it, but they are right. Americans don't care about torture. They would care if it was done to them, and rightly feel revulsion when they are told about it; however, they don't care to know and don't try to find out.
"Congress set to decide on prison abuse photos; Pentagon wants them kept from public release" by Mark Sherman, Associated Press | October 11, 2009
WASHINGTON - Congress is set to allow the Pentagon to keep new pictures of foreign detainees abused by their US captors from the public, a move intended to end a legal fight over the photographs’ release that has reached the Supreme Court.
Then I NEVER WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER DEMOCRAT criticize torture ever again! Weren't we supposed to be getting open government and transparency with Democrats? Pffft!
Federal courts have so far rejected the government’s arguments against the release of 21 color photographs showing prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq being abused by Americans.
They must be REALLY, REALLY BAD then!
The Obama administration believes giving the imminent grant of authority over the release of such pictures to the defense secretary would short-circuit a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union under the Freedom of Information Act. The White House is asking the justices to put off consideration of the case until after a vote on the measure in the House and Senate, as early as this week. The provision is part of a larger homeland security spending bill and would allow the defense secretary to withhold photographs relating to detainees by certifying their release would endanger soldiers or other government workers....
After YOU PAID FOR IT ALL, American taxpayers?
Don't you WANT TO KNOW what is being done with YOUR MONEY!
And how would it endanger people?
The WORLD ALREADY KNOWS what we ARE DOING!
President Obama initially indicated he would not fight the release of the photographs. He reversed course in May....
Yeah, he has done WAY TOO MUCH of that!
The president said he was persuaded that disclosure could further incite violence in Afghanistan and Iraq and endanger US troops there.
That is the SAME THING George W. Bush would have said!
So what, his TROOP INCREASE is JUST ENOUGH VIOLENCE and no more, 'eh?
The photographs at issue were taken by service members in Iraq and Afghanistan and were part of criminal investigations of alleged abuse. Some pictures show “soldiers pointing pistols or rifles at the heads of hooded and handcuffed detainees,’’ Solicitor General Elena Kagan said in the appeal to the high court. Others show physical abuse and sexual humiliation of prisoners, according to Pentagon investigators.
Oh, I see. They DO NOT WANT TO RELEASE THEM not because it will incite violence overseas, but BECAUSE YOU MAY BE SICKENED and REVOLTED by them, American. What was DONE in YOUR NAME -- all BASED ON LIES!!!!
Two investigations led to criminal charges and convictions.
Kagan said the military has identified more than two dozen additional pictures that could be affected by the court’s ruling. The government made much the same argument to prevent the release of 87 photographs and other images of detainees at detention facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan, including Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
So there IS NO DIFFERENCE between 'bamer and Bush!

"Court urged to delay action on prison photos" by Bloomberg News | October 17, 2009
WASHINGTON - The Obama administration, saying that Congress is addressing the issue, urged the US Supreme Court to delay consideration of the government’s bid to block the release of dozens of photographs that show abuse of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The House on Thursday approved a measure that would bar release of the photos, and the Senate is due to take up the matter next week.... The government contends that releasing them would incite violence against US troops overseas. Some photos show troops pointing guns at hooded or handcuffed prisoners.
And the sex part? Omitted? Why?
I guess KNOWING ABOUT the RAPES of CHILDREN in front of their parents would be a real bummer, huh, 'murkn?
“Some of the worst things that happened you don’t know about, okay?” Hersh said. “The women were passing messages out saying, ‘Please come and kill me, because of what’s happened,’ and basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys, children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst, above all, of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror. It’s going to come out.” In another speech, quoted by Rick Pearlstein, Hersh spoke of “horrible things done to children of women prisoners, as the cameras run.”
What if they were YOUR CHILDREN and WOMEN, America?
Think you would become an 'insurgent" against the occupation?
And Amurkns, THEY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED because THEY LIVED IT! The PHOTOS and TORTURE are to be HID FROM YOU!
The administration originally said it wouldn’t appeal the lower court ruling, but switched course in August, citing the concerns of top military commanders, including Generals David H. Petraeus and Raymond T. Odierno.
Flip, flop, flip, flop.
OBAMA LIED TO YOU, Amurka!!!!
