Getting Ready For the Game

You know, the game the Globe is promoting.

The Sporting Globe?

Here is a FRONT-PAGE LEAD!

"Taking the ‘little’ out of Little League; In West Roxbury, a winning tradition is threatened by feuding adults" by Peter Schworm, Globe Staff | January 9, 2010

The Parkway Little League - one of the state’s oldest leagues, known in Boston as an intensely competitive winning machine - is awash in controversy, beset by bitter disputes over how the 14-team league is run and who should run it. The infighting has dragged on for months, delayed league elections and the annual player draft, and resulted in the league’s charter being suspended amid allegations that it has run afoul of a host of Little League rules.

The strife, many say, is fallout from the often hypercompetitive culture of youth sports, the latest example of intensely involved parents turning a beloved childhood game into a bureaucratic brawl....

And then we BLAME KIDS for being the way they are!!!

And
WHO is SETTING the AGENDA for that culture?

At the heart of the brouhaha

Like I give a s***!!!

was a feuding 31-member board that controls virtually everything the league does, from ordering uniforms to setting schedules - and, most controversially recently, enforcing a system that allowed major league managers to hold some players on minor league teams.... But it had begun to irritate a growing number of parents, who felt the system penalized some players by holding them out of league-wide tryouts and preventing them from advancing to other major league teams. Others felt certain coaches had managed to gain advantages by monopolizing talented players. A revolt began.

So parents revolt over Little League and not wars and looting, huh?

You are PATHETIC, AmeriKa!!!

And soon a growing slate of other complaints had put the board in the crosshairs. Some parents, including several on the board, alleged that a number of long-serving members had hijacked the board and blocked efforts to change the system.

Hijacked? Revolt? What is with the choice word selection, huh?

WTF, Globe? This a TERROR ATTACK?!!!

The dispute escalated. Squalls erupted at heated board meetings. Lawyers were brought in, at a cost of several thousand dollars, to scour the league’s constitution.... Some disgruntled parents, in the midst of the squabble, had contacted Little League Baseball, which was dismayed to learn of the league’s farm system. “They treated it like it was Major League Baseball,’’ Holden said. “Psychologically, what are you telling these kids?’’

WIN at ALL COSTS no matter HOW MANY you HURT or KILL!!

Who knows, maybe you will grow up to be a mass-murdering war criminal, 'er, U.S. president someday.

At least you will be prepared for the corporate slavery you will be consigned to, kid.

A stern letter from Little League Baseball warned the league to conform to a list of rules - anything from those restricting the number of pitches that young players can throw in a game to others prohibiting jewelry on the field. But it had a fundamental admonishment: Restore “basic and general communication.’’ The controversy continued. But on Monday, the league made a move that Little League officials said would go a long way toward winning its charter back. In an attempt to minimize dissent on the board, it simply slashed it nearly in half, to 17, ridding it in the process of some of the staunchest defenders of the old system. With thoughts of baseball far away during the off-season, some parents have only followed the dust-up from a distance, but say the whole affair is a shame.

Oh, I'M SORRY, readers! I am covering the WRONG GAME!!!

“It’s unfortunate that these things happen,’’ said Dan Murphy, whose son plays in the league. “You don’t want to upset children’s enjoyment of the game. I just hope they iron it out.’’

Dave Greenwood, a 33-year-old who coached the league’s state championship team in 2008, advancing to the regional competition in Bristol, Conn. said it was unfortunate that some board members let the disputes get personal and take on a life of their own.

“It became a power struggle between a group of adults, and it never should have gotten that far,’’ he said. “I’m looking forward to moving forward. Let’s get rid of the lawyers and play baseball.’’

Yeah, and don't get in a power struggle over ANYTHING IMPORTANT -- like TAKING BACK OUR COUNTRY or anything!

"Slain officer’s fiancee recalls drunken taunting by victim; Incident preceded shooting near high school baseball field" by John R. Ellement and Andrew Ryan, Globe Staff | January 9, 2010

The fiancee of a slain off-duty Revere police officer described for the first time yesterday in court the drunken taunting that preceded the fatal shooting near a high school baseball field.

Oh, wrong game again.

Daniel Talbot and three other off-duty but armed police officers had been drinking in a restaurant bar until 1 a.m. on Sept. 29, 2007, but they wanted more and lugged beers to the bleachers behind Talbot’s alma mater, Revere High School, accompanied by his fiancee, Constance Bethell.

WTF? What are they 16-years old?

“I didn’t understand why we had to go to the field,’’ Bethell testified yesterday in Suffolk Superior Court. “We had a house. We were adults, but I was overruled.’’

Bethell told the jury that her 30-year-old fiance was “not sober’’ that morning and initiated the dispute by loudly mocking and taunting Derek Lodie, an alleged gang member who was then 17, as he walked by. The incident led to a confrontation between Talbot and Lodie, and the officer was shot soon afterward. Robert Iacoviello Jr., an alleged fellow gang member, is accused of the shooting. Bethell also described holding Talbot’s hand while he gasped for breath as he lay dying from a gunshot wound to the head....

I'm sorry, but the a**hole sort of got what he deserved, didn't he?

BULLIES never seem to LEARN!!!!!!

"Three die after snowmobiles fall into lake

Three snowmobiles crossing a frozen Vermont lake plunged through the ice yesterday, killing a man, his 24-year-old daughter, and 3-year-old granddaughter, police said.

Now all of a sudden the game doesn't seem that important.

The snowmobiles were carrying six people on Lake Dunmore when the accident occurred. Five people went into the water and were later pulled out by rescue crews. A 4-year-old was pushed to safety before his snowmobile went through the ice. Kevin Flynn, 50, Carrie Flynn, 24, and 3-year-old Bryanna Popp were pronounced dead at Porter Hospital in Middlebury. Kevin Flynn’s wife, 47-year-old Terry Flynn, and Bryanna’s brother, 6-year-old Jeremiah Popp, survived, as did the 4-year-old, whose name wasn’t immediately released. (AP)

Yeah, it isn't a good idea to go on ice anytime, even now.

Woman rescued after falling through ice

A woman and her two dogs were rescued from a small pond in Bourne yesterday morning after falling through the ice. The yellow lab and collie fell through the ice; their owner, a woman in her mid-30s, fell in when she tried to pull them out. She was pulled from the pond by residents who heard her call for help, said Paul Weeks, deputy chief of the Bourne Fire Department.

Yes, world, WE ARE GOOD PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

The woman, whom police would not identify, was reportedly in the water for 20 minutes. The dogs were saved by newly appointed firefighter Justin Jackson, Weeks said. The woman was transported to Falmouth Hospital, and the dogs were taken to a local veterinary clinic.

Some were not so lucky

One dead, 17 injured in school bus crash

One student was killed and 17 people injured yesterday when a bus carrying a robotics team to a competition in Farmington, Conn., fell about 20 feet from Interstate 84 in Hartford, Connecticut State Police said. Paul Vance, a police spokesman, said the bus crashed into a station wagon yesterday morning before falling off the highway into a ravine. One student, who police said will not be identified until today, died at the scene. The rest were sent to various hospitals with injuries. Vance said some of the injuries were serious, but he did not think any were life-threatening.

How TERRIFYING!!!!!

Better take a car.

Man dies after driving car off road

A 36-year-old man died in a crash on Route 121A early yesterday morning. Kenneth P. Pelletier of Sandown lost control of his car, drove off the roadway, and struck several trees, State Police said. Pelletier, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene by the state medical examiner, State Police said. The crash is under investigation.

At least I made it to the T.

Here is something to think about as we ride in:
Massachusetts Residents Taken For a Ride on the T

"Controversy lingers with Big Dig firm" by Noah Bierman, Globe Staff | January 10, 2010

The Big Dig may be finished with construction, but the controversy surrounding the project is here to stay.

Last week, the MBTA’s board of directors was scheduled to vote on a $2.7 million contract with PB Americas, an operating division of Parsons Brinckerhoff. That’s the same Parsons Brinckerhoff that, as part of a joint venture with Bechtel, led construction and design oversight of the Big Dig and was forced into part of a $458 million settlement with the state in January 2008. The MBTA contract would have paid the company to design tunnel repairs.

Yeah, HIRE the SAME S***TERS who did such a lousy job!!

Are you telling me there are NO OTHER FIRMS in the WORLD that can do the work?

But television cameras arrived at the MBTA meeting Wednesday and the vote did not happen. The T’s acting general manager, William Mitchell, pulled the item, saying the firm was chosen two years ago for the job and that the T would put the work out for bid again in hopes of getting a better deal. Since the Big Dig legal settlement, many politicians and some members of the MBTA’s board have questioned whether Parsons Brinckerhoff should be doing business with the state. But as part of the legal negotiations, the state declined to forbid the company from public contracts. That was the state’s main leverage in getting a deal.

So the STATE had to GROVEL before the CRIMINAL VIOLATOR?

They never did that with me.

So what does the future hold? Transportation Secretary Jeffrey Mullan said the state would continue to do business with the company. A spokeswoman for the company, Judith Cooper, said officials were surprised that the MBTA contract was pulled after the T’s own panel of experts deemed it the most qualified for the job.

“Parsons Brinckerhoff has been doing business in Massachusetts for over 100 years, ranging from projects such as the Cape Cod Canal, to the Moakley Courthouse, and the Post Office Square Park and Garage,’’ Cooper said in an e-mail. “We see no reason that we should not continue doing business in the Commonwealth for the next 100 years.’’

Hey, it is YOUR TAX LOOT, Massachusetts.

Dorchester resident captures candid moments of commute on T’s Red Line

Like many who ride the T, Dejan Djordjevic likes to study his fellow travelers.

“You have no idea what’s going on in their heads,’’ he said. “Are they going to a divorce attorney or are they just going to work or are they picking up a relative at the airport?’’

About a year ago, Djordjevic, a 26-year-old Dorchester resident, began snapping pictures of his Red Line commute with his iPhone camera, then posting them daily on Facebook.

Anybody ever break that f***ing camera?

Friends would add comments, sometimes speculating on what the subjects were thinking or where they were heading. Some of the passengers in the photos sit in groups; some stand alone. They smile, scowl, slump over, stand tall, read intently, or look away. Eventually, the photos formed what Djordjevic called a Subway Series, an underground slice of Boston that showed candid moments of homeless persons rubbing up against executives in business suits, and everything in between. The children always noticed he was taking their picture, he said. Adults were unaware. One Facebook friend, Jessica de Guardiola, worked in public relations and shared office space with an art gallery. De Guardiola saw something in the photos, and, a few months ago, helped plan an exhibit, which opens to the public next Saturday and extends for a month at the Accidental Gallery in South Boston’s Fort Point Channel neighborhood, 300 Summer St. Djordjevic - who works in advertising for the Globe’s parent company, The New York Times Co., in its Boston advertising office - has been pursuing a photography career since college.

Ooooooohhhhh!!!

So THIS is ALL a PROMO PIECE for a FRIEND'S PROFIT, 'eh, Glob?

Nice!

Public transportation has been a strong pull for photographers, in part because so many disparate people are sharing a common, random experience. But the furtive photos also raise questions about the right to privacy in an era of camera phones and social networking sites.

Hey, take the picture!

Then I STOMP on your phone!!!!

MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said that if the subjects of the photos don’t mind “there isn’t a problem. We’d hope, however, that he’d respect the privacy of those who don’t wish to be photographed.’’

Yeah, we hope he would respect your privacy, the state says -- as they respect none of yours!!!!!

Djordjevic said he consulted a lawyer and believes the T to be a public area, without an expectation of privacy.

Translation: No respect!

Who can I complain to?

Few commuter rail riders have their say as MBTA extends contract of private company in charge of system

Residents who ride commuter rail usually have a lot to say. And when they have time on their hands, while awaiting late trains, they write me e-mails.

“2010 has been a nightmare thus far,’’ Judith A. Ross, of Concord, wrote on Friday.

Twice last week, she squeezed into late, standing-room-only trains.

“The final insult came this morning when the ‘express’ train was 20 minutes late and had been turned into a local,’’ she continued.

Looking like I'm going to be late for the game.

Not everyone who rides the rails shares Ross’s experience. Still, not a single commuter showed up at the MBTA board meeting last week to comment when the private company that runs commuter rail had its contract extended by another two years, until July 2013. The two-year extension for the Massachusetts Bay Railroad Co. is worth more than half a billion dollars, the most lucrative private commuter rail contract in the nation, by far.

Hey, it is YOUR MONEY, taxpayers!!

But the lack of public input at last Wednesday’s meeting is not surprising, given the level of public disclosure. The MBTA made no mention of the contract extension on its published agenda and did not alert the public that the issue would be considered until the end of a very long meeting. Even many of those people who showed up to the meeting to comment on other issues had left the MBTA board room by the time the extension vote was announced. It passed, 3 to 0.

In LIBERAL Massachusetts?

WTF? This ain't some redneck backwater of Repuglicanism.... is it, Massachusetts Democrats?

Transportation Secretary Jeffrey Mullan who has vowed to win back the public’s trust in transportation with greater transparency, said the lack of public notice was not intentional and that he is committed to keeping the public informed.

HAH!

But

Always ready with the EXCUSE, huh?

contract negotiations went until a day before the meeting, he said, and putting the extension on the agenda before a deal was reached would have taken away some of the MBTA’s bargaining leverage.... Still, the state had some time to inform the public. A press release was written and ready to go immediately after the vote....

But we didn't mean not to tell you; just forgot.

Mullan said “we.... would work harder to let the public know earlier in the future.

Heard all that before!

Finally, we made it to the stadium!

9 detained in immigrant investigation

I didn't think much of it the first day, but....

"Detained immigrants were set to clear Gillette snow" by Maria Sacchetti, Globe Staff | January 8, 2010

Dozens of immigrants pulled over Wednesday in Foxborough during a federal search for fugitives from deportation were on their way to Gillette Stadium to shovel snow before this weekend’s New England Patriots playoff game, Guatemala’s consul in Rhode Island said yesterday.

What, they can't find any OUT OF WORK Americans to do a FOUR HOUR JOB?

The federal operation, possibly the largest involving Guatemalan nationals since the 2007 raid on a leather-goods factory in New Bedford, raises questions about the legal status of temporary workers at one of the state’s premier sports complexes, and about the responsibility of companies that hire subcontractors to verify the legal status of their employees....

Related: War Looter's Wednesday: Immigrants Matter Most

Please note how the Glob never goes into detail on that.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement would not confirm that the workers were headed to Gillette Stadium. Stacey James, spokesman for Gillette Stadium and the Patriots, said he learned about the federal operation from the media, and said stadium officials contacted the snow-clearing contractor to reaffirm that Gillette expects all workers to be here legally, he said. He said workers showed up Wednesday and cleared the snow, and he did not know whether they were among those who were stopped and quickly released during the federal action. James declined to name the contractor.

THEY WERE!!!

Wednesday’s road stop was part of a routine Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation seeking specific fugitives who had been ordered deported, including some with criminal records that included domestic violence and driving while intoxicated, said agency spokeswoman Paula Grenier.

But they are just here putting food on the table as they undermine America's labor force!

Nine men from Guatemala living in Rhode Island were detained and are facing deportation. Seven of them are still being held at Bristol County jail. Five who illegally reentered the country after having been deported are being referred to the US attorney’s office for criminal prosecution.

Time for a WALL!!

Hey, if it is GOOD ENOUGH for ISRAEL, it is good enough for us!

Federal officials did not release the names of the detainees, citing the department’s privacy policy.

Yeah, they CARE MORE ABOUT ILLEGALS than CITIZENS, Americans!!!!!

But 49 other people, most of whom are believed to be from Guatemala, were also questioned and released on orders to report to Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the future to determine whether they are here legally.

PFFFFT!!

How much you want to bet NO ONE SHOWS UP!!!?

Carlos Escobedo, Guatemala’s consul general in the region, said immigrants caught up in Wednesday’s road stop, who are now flooding the consulate with calls for help, appear to be ordinary workers, not criminals. He said he is helping them find legal assistance to determine whether they have the right to stay in the United States.

Yeah, SOMEHOW the ILLEGALITY is OVERLOOKED in these cases, and downplayed by the pro-illegal, agenda-pushing MSM?!!!

He said the consulate has not seen such a large enforcement action since the 2007 raid on a factory in New Bedford, which led to 361 arrests. Many of those detained were from Guatemala....

Again, NO DETAILS!

The PAPER does NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW that ARMY GEAR is being made by ILLEGALS!!! Even WAR GEAR, Americans!!!!!!!

Wednesday’s operation ignited criticism among advocates for immigrants, who said it went beyond the search for specific fugitives. Grenier said the agency’s top concern is fighting crime and terrorism, but that agents who encounter possible illegal immigrants in the field are authorized to detain them.

Hey, WE GOTTA LIVE WITH IT, you gotta live with it, ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday, advocates for immigrants said the operation underscored the need for immigration laws to be changed to allow the nation’s 12 million illegal immigrants to apply for legal status.

Excuse me?

This has now turned into an AGENDA-PUSHING ISSUE for AMNESTY??!!!!

Many fled poverty in their homelands to seek a better life in the United States, they said.

Yeah, so CUT 'EM a BREAK -- as YOU SLIDE INTO POVERTY, America!!

And this CORPORATE SYSTEM of GLOBALIZATION that CREATED ALL THIS?

Just KEEPS ROLLING ALONG while YOU worry about the GAME!!!!!

“It shows how the immigration system really needs to be fixed,’’ said Franklin Soults, spokesman for the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition. “Right now there’s a two-tier economy happening and people are working in the shadows. What we need is not an attempt to sweep up 12 million people. . . . It can’t be done.’’

Yeah, SOMEHOW this CRIME has now turned into an AGENDA-PUSHING CALL for "reform!"

--more--"

Of course, it's okay to DEPORT and REVOKE if you are Israel.

But YOU are a RACIST if you STAND for the RULE of LAW in AmeriKa!

And BE CAREFUL at the GAME, readers!

There could be TERRORISTS INSIDE!!!!!!

"Immigrant detentions raise safety concerns" by Meghan Irons, Globe Staff | January 9, 2010

The detention of dozens of immigrants on their way to a temporary job at Gillette Stadium this week has touched off a firestorm in Foxborough, as town officials raised safety concerns for tomorrow’s playoff game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens.

Paul Feeney, who chairs the town’s Board of Selectmen, sent a memo yesterday to Town Manager Andrew Gala in which he cited “potential security problems’’ for the game.

Then CANCEL IT!!

(Judging from the way it is going at 1:22 p.m. EDT, they would be for that; Pats look terrible and are losing 14-0)

He demanded answers about the immigrant workers’ identities, legal status, and criminal records, questioning whether any of those apprehended were on a terror watch list.

Go, go, go, selectman!! RUN WITH IT!!

They BUILT this BED of TYRANNICAL LIES, let them live with it!!!

“My ultimate concern is that no one knows the true identity of various workers that have been hired to perform work in Gillette Stadium, which by its nature is also at risk of potential coordinated attacks and terrorist activities,’’ he wrote.

A spokesman for Gillette Stadium said the Boston-area vendor responsible for hiring the workers was terminated after the incident....

And then they will hire another illegal outfit!

Now I understand why this state is crawling with immigrants and no one can find jobs.

Foxborough police and Gillette Stadium officials insisted that the games are safe and that every worker and fan is patted down before setting foot in the stadium. Bags are also searched.

I know, I've been to a few.

James said every worker who enters the facility is under stadium supervision during the time he or she is there. And, he said, “before every event there is a complete sweep of the stadium by State Police and stadium police.’’

*******************************

The stadium found a crew to remove the snow, but it was unclear whether its members were among those questioned and released by federal authorities....

WHY do you think they were RELEASED?

--more--"

And here is the CONFIRMATION that the IMMIGRATION ISSUE is to be RAISED AGAIN SOON for another agenda-pushing attempt at amnesty!

"Shoveling snow, shifting blame

.... The 12 million immigrants who are already here illegally need a path to citizenship.

Translation: CRIME PAYS!!

Such a path need not be easy, nor vault them ahead of those who’ve been patiently waiting in line for visas. But illegal immigrants are already in the workforce.

And 8 MILLION Americans have LOST JOBS -- and 1 in 5 are OUT of WORK!!!

They are mowing the lawns of presidential candidates and shoveling snow for sports team owners.
