Running Barefoot in the Globe

Just WATCH where you STEP, huh?

This goes right to the top of the list along with their other dumb ideas!

And now THIS AGENDA-PUSHING CRAP on the FRONT-PAGE?

"Shoeless running may spare feet; Going barefoot ends pounding on heel, Harvard study finds" by Carolyn Y. Johnson, Globe Staff | January 28, 2010

The new finding may become yet another example of the way in which the luxuries of modern life are a bad fit for bodies shaped by millions of years of evolution. Humans adapted to an environment lacking desk jobs, video games, abundant processed foods, and the modern running shoe....

PFFFFFT
!

So WHOSE CAUSE or WHAT AGENDA are you PROMOTING NOW, Glob?

People who want to go barefoot or land in a different way should proceed cautiously, stressed Daniel E. Lieberman, a professor of human evolutionary biology at Harvard University.

I'm just curious WHO runs on their HEELS because I PLAY a LOT of BASKETBALL and NO ONE DOES THAT! No one I know does it RUNNING, either!

Runners should transition gradually, because calf and foot muscles will need to build up to avoid injury.

I think I'll just WEAR the SHOE instead!

Barefoot runners must build up calluses to deal with terrain and avoid running on obvious hazards....

In other words, RUNNING BAREFOOT is REALLY NOT THAT GOOD an IDEA!!!!

To try it, runners do not have to give up shoes.

WTF?!!

They can opt for minimal shoes without stiff soles, arch support, or cushioning.

Yeah, why would you want all that scientific stuff the shoe companies sprung for to improve their products for customers?

Should have just left us a choice of those flat canvas sneakers Converse used to put out or nothing. Why bother changing if we were all meant to run barefoot, huh?

Think I'll try playing basketball barefoot next time and see how it goes.

In Boston winters, some runners use even more minimal shoes that mimic aspects of barefoot running while protecting their feet from the cold.

Yeah, RUN BAREFOOT in the FREEZING COLD and SNOW!!

Pffffft!

It's BITTER COLD HERE TODAY! Thermometer says 12-degrees Fahrenheit!

Also see: Major snowstorm could bring up to 2 feet of snow to mid-Atlantic region

Yeah, somehow the agenda-pushing Glob deemed that unworthy of coverage. I guess I'll have to wait for a Slow Saturday, huh?

Of course, that won't knock any sense into the lying politicians and their carbon tax based on lies.

Vibram offers various models of its FiveFingers minimal shoe, which protects runners’ feet with a rubber sole.

Benno Nigg, co-director of the Human Performance Lab at the University of Calgary, said that barefoot running seems to emerge as a fad every once in awhile.

And HERE it IS on the FRONT PAGE of the Globe!!!!

It got a lot of attention in 1960, when Abebe Bikila won the Olympic Marathon in a record time running barefoot. In 1985, South African Zola Budd broke the world record in the women’s 5,000 meters barefoot. The current interest is driven in large part by the 2009 book “Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Ever Seen,’’ by Christopher McDougall, which tells the story of a Mexican tribe who run long distances without running shoes....

Fine. They can; I'm not!
