"Tribes to develop anti-Taliban strategy; At least 3,000 elders have been killed in Pakistan" by Anwar Shakir, Bloomberg News | March 20, 2010
PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Pakistan’s tribal leaders are expected to discuss a strategy today to end support for militants, their biggest gathering since the United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001 and removed the Taliban from power.
At least 3,000 elders representing the 20 largest tribes in North West Frontier Province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas will hold a meeting known as a jirga in the provincial capital of Peshawar, Naeem Gul, one of the organizers, said in an interview.
Tribal support is crucial to efforts by Pakistan’s army to prevent insurgents from regrouping after an offensive in the region, focused on Swat Valley and South Waziristan. Groups in these areas are blamed for 80 percent of nationwide terror attacks.
Elders failed to stop the rise of militancy after the Taliban fled Afghanistan and thousands of tribesmen joined their ranks, killing scores of pro-government leaders.
“We plan to reach a consensus and form a panel of 40 tribal elders from all the various parts of the region,’’ said Syed Alam Khan Mehsud, leader of the Amn Tehrik, or Peace Movement, which is organizing the gathering.
“They will then be responsible for mobilizing people against the militants.’’
Jirgas are the traditional way of solving disputes among the ethnic Pashtun tribes of Afghanistan and northern Pakistan. The men typically sit in a circle on the ground and the meeting ends with a prayer by the most senior tribal elder. The government will not be represented at today’s gathering.
“This struggle for peace through jirgas is good but this time, military operations are the only solution for ending militancy and terrorism,’’ said Basheer Bilour, a senior provincial minister in the tribal areas. “The army has spent just one year in Swat Valley and South Waziristan. It will take a long time to defeat the terrorists.’’
In January, Pakistan’s government agreed to transfer responsibility for maintaining order in the longtime Taliban stronghold of South Waziristan to local leaders. More than 500 elders from the dominant Mehsud tribe endorsed the government proposal at a jirga.
Under the 1901 Frontier Crimes Regulation, which governs the seven districts of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, tribes are collectively responsible for any criminal acts in territory under their control.
Pakistan is pushing for cooperation from the tribes to help quell violence that has killed more than 900 people in nationwide suicide bombings and gun battles since 28,000 troops launched an offensive in South Waziristan in October. At least 3,000 tribal leaders have been killed by the Taliban since 2004, according to Peshawar-based Amn Tehrik.

Notice the refugees from all this rarely if ever receive a mention?
"Tribesmen call for defeat of Taliban
ISLAMABAD — Hundreds of tribesmen from Pakistan’s semiautonomous regions near the Afghan border ended a rare tribal council meeting yesterday with a declaration calling for the army to crush the Taliban. The meeting, held in the northwestern city of Peshawar, was called by an umbrella group of aid organizations and political parties in an effort to bring together people from the violence-battered region (AP)."
Okay. The paper tells me they want to be bombed so let the missiles fly, sigh.

[Here is some evidence from '08 that supports my theory about the nature of the brainwashing used upon young Muslim suicide bombers, especially in the FATA area. The idea that professional mind-molders are part of the Wahabi indoctrination that is fed into the innocent minds of young uneducated Muslim boys, supports the idea that an American "Manchurian Candidate" program is being used in Waziristan. The American military and CIA have labored since world war II to find methods for effectively programming professional killers and "reconditioning" young men to lose their moral inhibitions against killing their fellow man. Psychotropic drugs (such as LSD), hypnosis, electroshock and the use of inspirational role-modeling are primary tools for erasing undesirable personality traits (such as morality) and replacing them with acceptable (to the programmer) thoughts and characteristics. I would like to know whether or not any of these boys experienced electroshock.
Beginning with Mullah Dadullah, after his year-long captivity in the hell-holes of Afghanistan, a massive suicide-bomber training program was instituted in the Wana area. These young bombers joined other brainwashed recruits provided by reconditioned former Guantanamo inmate, Abdullah Mehsud, to form the anti-Taliban operation known as "Pakistani Taliban (TTP). Mehsud's fighters were Uzbeks and other Northern Alliance fighters from Afghanistan, who were supported by India, Russia and Iran. In the report below, RAW is supposedly the driving force behind the TTP, when the whole project is American military/CIA, all the way. It should be getting clearer to everyone that India is being played for a sucker in all of this, as the US moves Pakistan and India ever closer to nuclear war. India is merely the CIA's middleman.] -- American Fingerprints–TTP Use Psychologists in Suicide-Bomber Brainwashing Program
