All in the Family in France

Like it or not, the show was about real issues in what I consider a Golden Age of sit-coms, not the agenda-pushing trash you get today.

"Nicolas Sarkozy’s popularity keeps sinking.

That is the kind of thing that happens when you serve a foreign power and not your own people.

If I were him I would get out of politics and spend more time with the wife.

"France’s Bruni-Sarkozy goes to Washington

WASHINGTON — The Sarkozys’ trip took on an air of family vacation. 12-year-old son Louis came along to meetings on Capitol Hill with Senator John Kerry and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s gift to the Obama family was Asterix comic books for the Obama daughters. The subtext of the family man image that Sarkozy was projecting was clear: Forget about those blog rumors of troubles in his marriage.

What, and who cares?

The French first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, remains an enigma for her many admirers, as well as her detractors. She charmed Queen Elizabeth II but has spurned fellow first ladies during other international visits. She travels irregularly with her husband, and is reported to live in her spacious Paris apartment part of the time instead of in the presidential palace. Still, she and Michelle Obama appear to have established a rapport in their few meetings.

"Police investigate Sarkozy infidelity rumors" by Associated Press | April 7, 2010

PARIS — Police are investigating rumors of infidelity involving President Nicolas Sarkozy of France and his wife that appeared in a blog and spread to newspapers overseas, the Paris prosecutor’s office said yesterday.

No crimes to solve over there?

Sarkozy’s lawyer, Thierry Herzog, said in a radio interview Monday that he did not exclude the possibility the allegations of “totally unfounded liaisons’’ had been planted in a bid to tarnish the couple.

Oh, that is rich with all the propaganda and agenda-pushing lies flying out of governments these days.

The investigation was opened based on a complaint filed March 25 by the owner of a weekly newspaper whose blog carried the initial rumors that alleged that the president and his wife, a former top model, were involved in relationships outside their marriage.

Judicial police are handling the investigation, the prosecutor’s office said after a complaint was filed for the “fraudulous introduction of information in a computer system.’’

Newspaper websites.

The rumors appeared in early March amid France’s regional elections in which Sarkozy’s conservative Union for a Popular Movement party registered a resounding loss.

“Tonight, I cannot exclude a plot or that some people, for personal or financial interests . . . wanted to try to destabilize the president of the republic and his wife,’’ Herzog said in an interview with RTL radio.

What, he ticking off Israel behind closed doors?

British newspapers were among those that picked up the stories, though the mainstream French press largely shied away.

Sarkozy’s whirlwind romance and marriage in February 2008 to Bruni has been closely watched. It is his third marriage, and she, in her younger years, famously dismissed monogamy as untenable.

In the face of the rumors, the couple have portrayed themselves as closely united.

The blog appeared March 10 on the website of the newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.

Oh, not the
Russian-owned paper, huh?

"Obama, Sarkozy pose a united front on Iran" by Angela Charlton and Ben Feller, Associated Press | March 31, 2010

So the sex stories are so Nico doesn't stray, 'eh?

WASHINGTON — With the president of France at his side, President Obama declared yesterday that he hopes to have international sanctions against Iran in place “within weeks,’’ not months, because of its continuing nuclear program. But he acknowledged he still lacks full support at the United Nations....

And if Russia and China fail to go along?

Obama said he and President Nicolas Sarkozy of France are “inseparable’’ in their thinking on the subject.

Under the absolute control of you-know-who.

For his part, Sarkozy told reporters, “Iran cannot continue its mad race’’ toward acquiring nuclear weapons. “The time has come to take decisions,’’ he said.

On the UN Security Council, permanent members Russia and China, both empowered to wield a veto, have expressed reservations toward a tougher set of sanctions, as have several of the rotating members that do not have veto powers.

We are not going to get the votes, folks.

The WORLD is TIRED of the USRAELI EMPIRE SHOVING ITS WEIGHT AROUND!

Obama said he understands that countries that have business ties with Iran, especially those who depend on Iran for oil imports, might hesitate.

Yeah, BULL -- oh, not saying those things today.

But Obama said patience has all but run out.

That is GEORGE W. BUSH TALKING!

“My hope is that we are going to get this done this spring. So I’m not interested in waiting months for a sanctions regime to be in place. I’m interested in seeing that regime in place in weeks.’’

Meanwhile, ABC News reported last night that an Iranian nuclear scientist who had been reported missing since last summer has defected to the United States and is assisting the CIA in its efforts to undermine Iran’s nuclear program.

Was this before or after the torture?

The scientist, Shahram Amiri, has been resettled in the United States, according to the report.

In which prison?

The CIA had no comment, a spokesman said.

You have to look for it, but it is there.

Earlier yesterday, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton predicted that new sanctions against Iran would be forthcoming, hinting that skeptical nations such as China and Russia would eventually come along. At the conclusion of an international meeting of eight major powers in Quebec, Clinton cited a growing alarm around the world about the consequences of a nuclear-armed Iran.

Well, when you are blasted you would hardly know it.

Obama and Sarkozy met privately in the Oval Office and later planned dinner at the White House with their wives, Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. Obama said he and the French president discussed a wide range of global issues, including the financial regulatory overhaul and peace negotiations in the Middle East.

Sarkozy also said he stands with the United States in condemning recent Israeli settlement activity in East Jerusalem.

France's version of the food fight.

While his own commitment to Israel’s security is well known, Sarkozy said, the settlement activity in lands claimed by the Palestinians “contributes nothing.’’

Sarkozy praised Obama for trying to engage the two sides in peace talks. Sarkozy said that the “absence of peace’’ in the region “is a problem for all of us’’ and feeds terrorism around the world.

You would think they might press Israel a little harder then, but nope.

Money still flows and veto pens roll.
