"State’s first West Nile virus case in 7 years
New Hampshire health officials say a man from the town of Mason has been diagnosed with the West Nile virus. It is the first human case confirmed in the state since 2003. Dr. Jose Montero, public health director, said the man has recovered from the illness. Health officials say the man probably acquired the virus in New Hampshire, though he did travel in the western United States before getting ill. (Associated Press)."
Then the bugs brought it to Boston:
"West Nile mosquitoes are detected again
Boston public health officials say mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus have been found in north Dorchester and in Hyde Park. Infected mosquitoes had been found earlier this year in north Dorchester and West Roxbury. The number of positive mosquito tests suggests that West Nile is “likely to be present throughout the city,’’ the Boston Public Health Commission said. This year there has been one human case of West Nile virus in Boston: a 46-year-old Boston woman. Her case was confirmed Friday, and she has since recovered. Officials said that larvicide had been placed in catch basins to reduce the number of mosquitoes and that spraying had been done in parts of some neighborhoods, but there were no plans to extend spraying throughout the city.

"Two women diagnosed with West Nile
An elderly woman from Worcester County and a woman from Middlesex County have been diagnosed with the West Nile virus, bringing to five the number of people who have fallen seriously ill this summer from mosquito-borne illnesses in Massachusetts, state disease trackers reported yesterday. The Worcester County woman developed symptoms Aug. 19 and was hospitalized but has since been released. The Middlesex woman remains in the hospital but is getting better, the Department of Public Health reported. A 46-year-old Boston woman was diagnosed with West Nile in late August, hospitalized, and recovered. Two cases of Eastern equine encephalitis, another disease spread by mosquitoes, have been linked to Massachusetts.
