Governor Deval Patrick signed a bill yesterday to transfer state-owned land in Agawam to a group planning to build housing for homeless veterans, his office said. The bill allows the group Soldier On, which has shelters in Pittsfield and Leeds, to purchase 6.9 acres for $1, the statement said. The group plans to break ground on a $12 million housing development by spring."
