A 20-year-old student at Western New England University in Springfield collapsed during an intramural basketball game Sunday and later died of an unknown cause, a university spokesman said. George Papadoliopoulos, a sophomore majoring in biomedical engineering and originally from Hanover, N.H., collapsed on the basketball court around 10:30 p.m., said university spokesman Dave Stawasz. Campus police and emergency medical technicians tried to revive him, but Papadoliopoulos was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Stawasz said. He said the student’s family would consult with medical center staff and the state medical examiner’s office to decide whether an autopsy would be performed. The university’s dean of students described Papadoliopoulos as a beloved member of the College of Engineering who touched many members of the campus community, Stawasz said. “Obviously it’s been a sad day for the entire campus community,” he said."
