Goodluck Running Out in Nigeria

Sitting on all that oil turned out to be bad luck:

"Nigerian law enforcers are notorious for torturing suspects to extract confessions. They also are known for extorting money from victims to allow them to get out of jail cells."

Who trained them in torture, ally AmeriKa?

As for the state extorting money, we call that bail.

"Nigerian extremists abduct soldiers’ wives, kids" Associated Press, December 25, 2013

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Nigeria’s military is in hot pursuit of Islamic extremists who abducted soldiers’ wives and children when they attacked a barracks in northeast Nigeria, witnesses said Tuesday.

The bodies of presumed terrorists killed in Friday’s attack on a tank battalion in Bama are decomposing in the desert heat but residents say they are afraid to bury them.

A Defense Ministry spokesman, Major General Chris Olukolade, said security forces have killed at least 50 insurgents in an ongoing operation to catch the attackers. Fifteen soldiers and five civilians died in Friday’s attack on a tank battalion in Bama and in the pursuit, he said in a statement.

‘‘Intensive cordon and search operations are still ongoing to fish out the insurgents who might be lurking around communities in the area,’’ Olukolade said.

Nigeria’s military routinely detains relatives of suspects, sometimes holding them hostage if a wanted person does not give himself up.

They must have been taught that tactic.

The leader of the Boko Haram terrorist network has repeatedly warned that they will retaliate with kidnappings of the family of security forces.

So how is Abul-Qaqa (no kidding, readers) doing?

Like in all countries, it is the government.

So how did the vote go?

"Few voters turn out in Nigerian state amid Islamist uprising" by Adamu Adamu |  Associated Press, December 29, 2013

DAMATURU, Nigeria — Few voters straggled to polls Saturday to elect local councils in a northeastern Nigerian state battling Islamic militants who say democracy in corruption-prone Nigeria is an enemy of the people.

The People’s Democratic Party of President Goodluck Jonathan boycotted the election in Yobe state, saying it feared for the safety of its candidates.

Heavily armed police, intelligence agents, and the civil service defense corps guarded polling stations and set up roadblocks Saturday in Yobe, which suffered some of the most brutal attacks on schools by extremists this year.

Islamic extremist leader Abubakar Shekau threatened more mayhem in a video that reached the Associated Press on Saturday.

‘‘As for killing, we will kill because Allah says we should decapitate, we should amputate limbs, we should mutilate,’’ Shekau says in the video that was distributed through the same channels the group has used previously though its authenticity could not be independently verified.

I can no longer read this propagandistic slop that is staged and scripted CIA fiction, sorry.

Shekau boasts in the video of a Dec. 20 attack on a tank battalion barracks at Bama, in neighboring Borno state, the birthplace of his Boko Haram group, which means ‘‘Western education is forbidden.’’

‘‘Brothers pulverized 21 armored tanks. People were killed in their multitudes, bodies scattered all over,’’ he says.

Shekau has in the past denounced democracy and said that only the law of Islam can purify Nigeria of the corruption that keeps an elite fabulously wealthy off the riches of Africa’s biggest oil producing nation.

Is that what AmeriKa needs?

The majority of Nigeria’s more than 160 million people live hand to mouth. Northeastern Nigeria is the poorest region in the country, with literacy rates that were abysmal even before Boko Haram burned down dozens of schools and frightened parents into keeping their children at home.

In Yobe state in July, the insurgents locked sleeping students into a dormitory and set it ablaze, burning 29 victims.

In the video, Shekau scoffs at the bounties put on his head — a reward of $7 million by the United States and $312,500 by the Nigerian government. ‘‘We do not worship money,’’ he says. ‘‘You can’t in any way harm me.’’

Because he is a CIA-created fraud!

And the U.S. taxpayers are on the hook for $7 million for a phantom CIA character?

"Group attacks wedding party in Nigeria" Associated Press, November 04, 2013

YOLA, Nigeria — Suspected Islamic militants attacked a wedding convoy in northeast Nigeria over the weekend, the latest in a storm of violence in the region as government troops battle religious extremists bent on turning Africa’s most populous nation into an Islamic state.

Are you sure it wasn't a U.S. drone?

Authorities on Sunday gave conflicting death tolls, ranging from five to as many as 30, including the groom.

The attack took place Saturday on the highway between Gama and Gwoza towns in Borno state, military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Muhammed Dole said. That road runs alongside forests that shelter extremists from the Boko Haram network….

Boko Haram is leading an uprising aimed at installing an Islamic state in Nigeria, possibly the greatest threat in decades to the cohesion of the West African country.

If the treatment of gays won't convince you to invade maybe that will.

Nigeria is Africa’s biggest oil producer.

It's why the U.S. is so interested.

Its population of more than 160 million people is divided almost equally between the mainly Muslim north and the predominantly Christian south.

And most of those disputes are about LAND not religion!

"Islamic militants attack Nigerian air force base" Associated Press, December 03, 2013

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Hundreds of Islamic militants in trucks and a stolen armored personnel carrier attacked an air force base and international airport on the outskirts of a Nigerian city before dawn Monday, officials and witnesses said, possibly leaving scores of people dead in one of the insurgent group’s most daring attacks.

Two helicopters and three decommissioned military aircraft were ‘‘incapacitated’’ in the attack, said a statement from Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, the Ministry of Defense spokesman. He said some army bases also were hit.

Twenty-four insurgents were killed and many were wounded, along with two air force personnel, Olukolade said in a statement.

The state government quickly ordered everyone to stay home and extended a nighttime curfew to 24 hours in Maiduguri, the city near the air base. The city is also the birthplace of the extremist Boko Haram movement.

The militants also attacked Maiduguri International Airport, the official said. Olukolade said flight operations were temporarily disrupted but have resumed.

Explosions and automatic gunfire could be heard across the northeastern city from around 2:30 a.m. when the insurgents launched the attack with screams of ‘‘Allahu akbar,’’ or ‘‘God is great.’’

Government and military officials said scores of people may be dead. Reporters saw military ambulances ferrying bodies to the hospital morgue.

"Vehicle blast at Nigerian base kills 17" by Haruna Umar |  Associated Press, January 15, 2014

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — A vehicle exploded at a military post in a commercial area of a northeastern Nigerian city Tuesday, killing at least 17 people and causing pandemonium, with blood-spattered bystanders running away and vehicles colliding as drivers fled.

Police said a suicide bomber is suspected in the lunchtime blast in Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram, an Islamic extremist network that has been terrorizing northeast Nigeria.

Soldiers started firing automatic rifles in the air after the explosion sent a dense column of dark smoke into the air. The blast occurred at 1:30 p.m. in front of a large military post called JTF Sector 4. A nearby vehicle also burst into flames.

A woman who may have lost a loved one raised her hands above her head and shouted: ‘‘I am finished. I am finished!’’

Police Commissioner Lawan Tanko said 17 corpses were recovered at the scene but others could have been taken to nearby hospitals.

‘‘It was a suicide bombing that was carried out in a pickup van loaded with firewood,’’ he said. Fifteen vehicles and four motorcycle taxis were destroyed, he said.

Thousands of people have been killed in the insurgency affecting parts of Nigeria’s predominantly Muslim northern half.

President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in May to quell it and thousands of security forces were deployed to the area. They swiftly drove militants out of Maiduguri and most other cities, but the insurgents have begun striking back in the urban centers.

On Dec. 2, hundreds of Boko Haram fighters in trucks and a stolen armored personnel carrier attacked an air force base on the outskirts of Maiduguri.

Isn't there any good luck in Nigeria?

"French priest set free in Cameroon" by Elaine Ganley |  Associated Press, January 01, 2014

PARIS — There was never a claim of responsibility, but suspicion fell on the radical Islamic sect Boko Haram….

The zone has been flagged as a risk for terrorism and kidnapping, but the priest — who cared for Nigerian refugees — chose to stay on to ‘‘exercise his mission,’’ the French Foreign Ministry said at the time.

In a statement from his office, the French president thanked authorities in Cameroon and Nigeria for their ‘‘relentless’’ efforts in helping to free the priest. He ‘‘particularly’’ thanked President Paul Biya of Cameroon for personally working on the case, but provided no details on how the release was secured.

Intelligence assets let him go? How was the hotel room?

Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on BFM-TV that he spoke to Biya regularly during the priest’s captivity and the release came early Tuesday, with no ransom paid….

They have said that before and later is was revealed they did pay.
