"College Board offers free SAT retakes over timing error" Associated Press June 17, 2015
NEW YORK — Students who took a flawed SAT this month can get a free do-over.
The College Board will waive the $54.50 fee for any student who took the June 6 exam, which contained a printing error that gave some students five more minutes on one section of the test.
The test incorrectly said students had ‘‘25 minutes’’ to complete one section, while directions read out loud correctly told students they had 20 minutes.
The organization that oversees the exam says the scores are still valid.
‘‘We remain confident in the reliability of scores from the June 6 administration of the SAT and don’t want to cause undue anxiety for students by making them believe they need to sit for the test again,’’ College Board spokesman Zach Goldberg said. ‘‘However, we have waived the fee for the October SAT administration for students who let us know that their testing experience was negatively affected by the printing error and we will continue to do so.’’
The College Board announced a few days after the test that Sections 8 and 9 would be thrown out and all students would be scored on the remaining sections. That would make scores based on fewer questions, testing officials said.
