New Hampshire Congressman Paul Hodes and state Senator Molly Kelly took their concerns about the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Plant right to the plant this week. Hodes and Kelly toured the plant Wednesday and met with officials from the plant and Nuclear Regulatory Commission. They visited the plant's control room, waste storage facility, and water cooling towers. Recent failures at the cooling towers have raised community concerns about safety. The plant is in Vernon, Vt., across the Connecticut River from Hinsdale, N.H. Hodes and Kelly said they appreciate increased communication from the NRC and plant operators to make sure the public will be kept apprised of all safety-related matters. They say they will keep a close eye on the plant (AP)."
