Afghanistan's Reverse Surge

The TROOPS GO IN and the VIOLENCE GOES UP?

WTF?

"Taliban kill 3 US soldiers in Afghanistan; Vehicle was ambushed not far from base" by Chris Brummitt, Associated Press | June 5, 2009

KABUL - Taliban militants detonated a bomb and opened fire on a vehicle carrying US soldiers yesterday, killing three of them, as President Obama said he did not want to keep American troops in Afghanistan longer than necessary.

Then PULL 'EM OUT!

FYI, 'bamer, 9/11 was an INSIDE JOB!

The ambush took place not far from the main US base in Bagram, just north of the capital, Kabul. It was the third strike by insurgents in the region in less than a week, part of a surge in violence eight years after the US invaded to oust the Taliban regime.

Obama made the remarks in Egypt in a speech aimed at healing relations between the United States and Muslims. He said that he did not want to establish permanent bases or keep troops in Afghanistan, but that both were currently needed to fight extremists intent on killing as many Americans as they can....

Yeah, THOSE are for Occupation Iraq: Obama's Permanent Bases!

And who does he think he's kidding? We ain't leaving Afghanistan -- or anywhere -- ever!

Btw, 'bamer, you can JETTISON the BUSHSPEAK!

Yesterday's attack took place in Kapisa Province.... Kapisa is considered a stronghold of insurgents loyal to Afghan warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.

Hekmatyar the CIA ASSET?

"Gulbuddin Hekmatyar the favored warlord of the ISI and CIA. Casey was said to be particularly fond of him as both shared a goal of extending the fighting beyond Afghanistan into the Soviet Union itself. He was a ruthless fighter, who also led several raids into USSR territory. He was also a major drug trafficker. Almost half of all the covert weapons directed at Afghanistan were sent to his group"

Seen enough, readers?

In other violence, police found the body of a candidate for provincial elections in Wardak Province, west of Kabul, said Police Chief Khial Baz Sherzai. Suspected Taliban insurgents kidnapped the candidate, Yeiya Mulaye Azhar, 11 days ago, he said.

Afghans are scheduled to go to the polls Aug. 20 to elect a president and provincial officials. Militants have urged the nation's 30 million people not to vote.

Yeah, right, that's why they are !!!

FLASHBACK: "Splintered Taliban forces thwart Afghan peace; But analysts see widespread desire for a settlement" by Pamela Constable, Washington Post | April 5, 2009

KABUL, Afghanistan - When voter registration stations opened in southern Afghanistan several months ago, officials feared they would be attacked by Taliban fighters who control much of the region. Instead, the process went smoothly and not a shot was fired. There were even reports of local Taliban members encouraging people to register and support them at the polls in August....

Who are the TALIBAN anyway?

"Something of a catchall term for loosely affiliated insurgents without a singular command structure. Often, the Afghan government favors the phrase 'enemies of the state' (New York Times July 24, 2007)."

"
The Taliban is growing and creating new alliances not because its sectarian religious practices have become popular, but because it is the only available umbrella for national liberation," says Pakistani historian and political commentator Tariq Ali. "As the British and the Soviets discovered to their cost in the preceding two centuries, Afghans never like being occupied."

And today, readers?

"More and more, people here look back to the era of harsh Taliban rule from 1996 to 2001, describing it as a time of security and
peace."

Oh, oh, oh!!!! I'm so offended by the AmeriKan MSM and its bullshit!

According to experts and officials here, including several Afghans who served in the Taliban government of 1996 to 2001, there is a widespread desire among Afghan Taliban fighters to seek a settlement that would end intervention by NATO forces on one side and foreign Islamists, including Al Qaeda, on the other....
