Slow Saturday Special: The Business Lies of the Boston Globe

"The unemployment picture in all but two US states deteriorated in May....

Yup, and MASS AIN'T ONE of 'em -- despite what the Globe reported yesterday (and they wonder why they are losing a million-six a week?)!!

.... North Dakota and Alaska reported gains in employment"

And you think the colorful and descriptive terminology I employ is out of place?

I say it is PERFECTLY JUSTIFIED seeing as YOU were SHOVELED a BIG PILE of DUNG in the Boston Globe business pages yesterday.

I really need not comment anymore, need I?

"Unemployment climbed in May; Jobless rates topped 10% in 5 states" by Shobhana Chandra, Bloomberg News | June 20, 2009

WASHINGTON - The unemployment picture in all but two US states deteriorated in May as the jobless rate in more than a quarter of them exceeded 10 percent.

Five states - Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee - crossed into double digits last month, adding to the eight that had the distinction in April, the Labor Department reported yesterday in Washington. Joblessness in eight states, including California, Florida, and Georgia, reached the highest levels since records began in 1976.

Now I don't know whom to believe because all governments lie.

The feeling here is the state is lying first, then the feds are minimizing the problem even as they report it.

The figures make it likely President Obama was correct this week in forecasting the national unemployment rate will reach 10 percent this year. With no region escaping the rout, consumers across the country will probably curtail their spending, preventing any boom out of the deepest recession in half a century, analysts said....

There is one of THOSE WORDS AGAIN! Could be, if, may be, probably, still, but, however -- paper is FULL of 'em!!!

College told me those were BAD WORDS to use in a REPORT!!

Overall, 48 states and the District of Columbia posted increases. Nebraska fell to 4.4 percent from 4.5 percent; Vermont held steady at 7.3 percent.... North Dakota and Alaska reported gains in employment.

And how is this for insulting?

"Talbots chief gets $1.2m boost; Retailer has cut 695 jobs this year" by Erin Ailworth, Globe Staff | June 20, 2009

Less than two weeks after Talbots Inc. slashed 325 corporate positions, the second round of cuts this year, the Hingham retailer said it will pay its chief executive $1.2 million to make up for recent reductions in her retirement benefits.

This WHOLE ECONOMY is one LOOTING OPERATION, isn't it?

No matter WHERE YOU TURN, no matter WHAT INSTITUTION....

The women’s clothing chain has been struggling to pare costs, and the cuts announced last week are expected to save the company $21 million. Those reductions are in addition to the 370 positions Talbots cut earlier this year - the majority at its headquarters - a move expected to save $22 million. Talbots also has frozen its pension plan and an executive retirement plan.

But according to a filing made this week with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company is obligated to offset chief executive Trudy F. Sullivan’s loss of benefits. A compensation committee decided on giving her six payments of $200,000 apiece over the next six months.

That's a $200,000 payment EVERY MONTH!!!

Why can't she say it that way?

What is with the word-game deceptions?

It is PURPOSEFUL DECEPTION, isn't it?

Financial filings from April show Sullivan earned nearly $5.7 million last year, including a $1 million base salary and millions in the estimated value of stock options, restricted stock, and other compensation.

Sullivan isn’t the only Talbots executive to get a recent financial boost. According to a May financial filing, the company increased the base salary of Richard T. O’Connell Jr., an executive vice president, by 23 percent and granted him additional shares of restricted stock. O’Connell’s base salary is now $500,000, up from $406,292 in 2008.

And WHAT of those 695 LIVES that are now DESTROYED as these pieces of shit loot the company?
