The Boston Globe Just Doesn't Get It

The capacity for self-adulating, self-aggrandizing, self-delusion astonishes me and is beyond my comprehension.

The Boston Globe Admits Iraq Lies Killed It

Now you know which side of the axe these elites are grinding with their "magazine"
:

"Glossy in search of new sheen; Boston magazine hoping change at top will bring lift" by Megan Woolhouse, Globe Staff | July 2, 2009

The real problem is “people aren’t buying ads because no one has any money.’’

Yeah, you are right about the money -- which is why I don't the economic cheerleading bullshit everyday -- but WRONG about YOUR DEMISE!

It's the DAMN LIES, stoo-pids!!!!

Their lifeblood - ads for luxury services, restaurants, and jewelry stores - has dried up.

What, Bernie Madoff take the dough?

Some are charging more for subscriptions to offset losses in ad revenue....

And I'm finding it harder and harder to drag my ass out of bed and purchase a s*** sheet from Apu's. Poor guy; he's suffering as much as us. Thank God for lottery players!

Stories about turmoil at Boston magazine almost always invoke the name of its owner, D. Herbert Lipson, who is a looming presence on the Philadelphia scene, and well known for trumpeting his conservative politics....

Jewish, of course!!!

Boston's staples include features on pricey restaurants, fashion boutiques, and luxury real estate. The magazine also pioneered the “best and worst’’ model, eventually dropping the “worst’’ in what was viewed as a concession to advertisers.

Both Metrocorp magazines, and several ancillary publications, have won a host of awards over the years and generated a steady stream of advertising dollars, making Lipson wealthy. At a company Christmas party five years ago at the Charles Hotel, Lipson proclaimed he was “backstroking in green,’’ according to someone who was there.

David Rosenbaum, editor of Boston from 1986 to 1991, said Lipson did not care much for editors, but tolerated them when profits were robust. Rosenbaum said Lipson frequently pushed him to be irreverent, “going after poor people, Democrats, the handicapped, minorities,’’ he said. “He’s to the right of Attila the Hun.’’

YOUR KIDDING? The "Boston" Magazine?

Glad I NEVER READ the INSERTS!!!!

John Wolfson, a former senior editor who left Boston last year, said he often cringed when Lipson spoke, but that his advice was sought after in industry circles....

Larry Platt, the top editor of Boston magazine, said he has a plan for reinvigorating Boston magazine: There are 250 influential people who compose any city’s power structure, he said, and the key is to write vivid stories about them....

And they WONDER WHY NO ONE is BUYING THEM anymore?

People DO NOT WANT TO READ THAT SHIT NOW!!!!!!!!

And LOOK who they HIRED as EDITOR!

Putz....

Need I even say it?

And their editorial page (this was a particularly sickening piece of swill):

"Next acts

WE HAVE a joke around the office here at the editorial page: “Globe gets action!’’ We shout it whenever something happens that we have coincidentally urged in an editorial.

Like STARTING WARS based on LIES?

The joke is particularly funny (well, to us) when a change occurs in some far-off place, such as Burma or Iran, as if members of the regime are poring over the Globe to get their marching orders. Or if we’ve written one of those “weather-torials’’ about a particularly dreary spring, and the sun comes out.

Do you SEE ME LAUGHING on here? Ohhhh!!!!!

Yup, CHANGES in FAR-OFF PLACES!!! What ARROGANT A**HOLES!!!!!!!!

In the nine years that I have been privileged to be editor of this page, the Globe has tried to make a brighter day for the region’s many communities.

By LYING TO US and EDITORILIZING HIGHER TAXES while TOSSING our TAX MONEY AWAY? By HIDING a RECESSION for TEN MONTHS? By LYING about the "recovery" every day!?

We put a human face on otherwise obscure line items in the state budget. We pressed for reform at all levels of government, not as just another negotiating ploy but because it was the right thing to do.

(Blog editor is overcome by the RANK CONCEIT!)

We supported full marriage rights for same-sex couples because we believe there are no lesser lives. We highlighted neglected natural resources, such as the area’s many public beaches, and the unrealized potential of the human resource. Every day we tried to do a little bit to move bureaucracies, expose injustices, and correct imbalances of power. Sometimes, we got action....

Translation: They PUSH a REAL GOOD AGENDA because IF THAT WERE TRUE, people would be BUYING UP the GLOBE in DROVES!!! They ARE NOT!

It’s not the power of any one individual, but only this institution, The Boston Globe, that gives the editorial page its influence. We try to be good stewards of that power: giving differing views a respectful hearing, digging deep into the issues, getting around in the neighborhoods, lifting the veil a bit on what must seem like a dark art to many of our readers.

I really don't know what to say here. I'm flabbergasted.

But the Globe - a trusted, principled watchdog, advocate, and convener - is what this community responds to, and why I am optimistic about its future.

Have you been to see a doctor?

Today is my last day on the Globe staff....

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!

Rat deserting a sinking ship, 'eh?

I am not going far. I’ll have an office across from the State House, and I will be writing a weekly column on the Globe’s op-ed page....

Pffft!

(Blog editor holds arms out with palms facing upward)

I must say, readers, I myself am finding it harder and harder to read the Globe. I fear the day is not far away at all where I no longer purchase and post.

Whether they try to charge for the crap, or whether I stop visiting and reading their site (upon preview, I only logged four items; the above articles are ones I would not have bothered with and likely will not in the future) it makes no difference.

They are LOSING ME, folks, and that is a BAD SIGN for them!
