Obama Can't Go Home to Chicago

They are just like the rest of us.

"Obama loses a little glow among Chicago supporters

CHICAGO — Even in Barack Obama’s hometown, they had hoped for more....

We all did.

But nearly two years after Obama took office, while the president remains widely popular in the city, his image has slipped a bit as many people wonder where the promised change and jobs are...

That is what we are ALL ASKING!

"Democrat vying for Illinois Senate seat gets a boost from Obama

CHICAGO — Battling to keep his old Senate seat out of GOP hands, President Obama recalled yesterday the joy that swept his hometown backers on election night two years ago and said the mission he began that night is at stake in the coming midterm vote.

Obama flew here to raise cash for state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, who faces a tough fight for the seat with Representative Mark Kirk, a Republican. It’s been a slugfest, and polls put the race neck-and-neck....

I'll bet Kirk gets a bump.

Is that the "upset" Rove needs?

I did the math last night and that is what I came up with (had Illinois going Democrat, too).

Republicans, scenting a big symbolic triumph in Obama’s backyard, have been pouring money into Illinois, running campaign ads portraying Giannoulias as a likely rubber stamp for Obama.

Giannoulias has responded by saying Kirk has taken huge contributions from special interests, and has routinely done their bidding.

Translation: They are both scum.

WASHINGTON — The two men who want to fill a Senate seat President Obama once held in Illinois questioned each other’s integrity and qualifications yesterday as they faced off in their first debate.

Republican Mark Kirk said Alexi Giannoulias had done business with mobsters, while the Democrat accused his opponent of telling “some real whoppers’’ during the campaign.

“We shouldn’t be surprised that the congressman is lying again,’’ Giannoulias said after Kirk criticized his time as a senior loan officer at Broadway Bank in Chicago.

Central to the discussion was the fallout from the April failure of the family bank and Kirk’s apology for exaggerating his military and personal biography.

The 30-minute debate in Washington, broadcast on NBC’s “Meet the Press,’’ showcased a race that polls indicate is one of the nation’s most competitive Senate contests.

At one point, Kirk, 51, held up a sheet of paper he said showed a list of loans made by the bank to “convicted mobsters and felons’’ when Giannoulias was a senior loan officer.

“The Broadway Bank provided an extraordinary amount of loan capital, millions of dollars, to mob figures and convicted felons after they had been convicted,’’ Kirk said.

As he has throughout the campaign, Giannoulias, 34, said he didn’t know the full backgrounds of some of those who received bank loans.

“If I knew then what I know now, these aren’t the kind of people that we do business with,’’ he said. “I didn’t know the extent of their activity.’’

Ignorance is no excuse. That's what the state always told me.

Moderator David Gregory asked Kirk to explain why he exaggerated his US Naval Reserve service to voters. “I was careless and I learned a very painful and humbling lesson,’’ Kirk said.

I would vote for the real one.

"White House in Crisis

by Wayne Madsen

....  In the case of President Obama, the senior firings are not happening during a single nght but the recent involuntary sudden departures of the White House chief of staff and national security adviser, along with what WMR can confirm from multiple sources is a president who is suffering from Nixonian levels of paranoia, depression, and schizophrenia, has some top-level administration officials considering the first-ever invocation of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment — the involuntary removal of the president from office. The White House meltdown has the Washington political circuit buzzing under the surface.

Unlike Watergate and the Iran-contra scandal, however, the corporate media is refusing to report on the breakdown of the Obama administration and the internecine political warfare within the Executive Office of the President....

President Obama, who is detached from his duties, and, according to the former White House staffer who is talking to Ulsterman, extremely lazy, only interested in watching ESPN and discussing sports, and playing golf, and doing what he is most comfortable at: campaigning. Obama clearly wants to run again for president, citing the “adoring crowds” who greet him on the political stump. Mrs. Obama has reportedly told the president that “there are no more adoring crowds.”

Last March, the annual report on the president’s health contained a reference to drinking. Obama’s doctor urged him to ”Continue smoking cessation efforts, a daily exercise program, healthy diet, moderation in alcohol intake. . .” WMR has been told by informed sources that Obama’s drinking has, on occasion, been more than moderate.
