British Intelligence Officer Kept in Cell at Gitmo

They didn't let him leave when he visited:

"Ex-UK spy joins Guantanamo protest" Associated Press, August 14, 2013

LONDON — A former British intelligence officer says he has launched a weeklong hunger strike to show solidarity with Guantanamo detainees, in particular Shaker Aamer.

Aamer is the last UK resident at Guantanamo and one of three hunger-striking detainees who lost a bid to stop authorities from force-feeding them. All three are cleared for release but remain in prison.

They really haven't received that much press despite the military complaints.

Harry Ferguson — who worked for MI6, Britain’s external spy agency — says he is ashamed that the agency supports detention without trial.

Ferguson wrote on his blog Tuesday that his ‘‘energy level dropped to zero’’ and he felt pain on the first day without food, but that unlike Aamer, he doesn’t have to ‘‘face the horror’’ of force feeding.

Since Ramadan started in early July, the number of prisoners who met the military criteria to be declared hunger strikers dropped by more than half. As of last week, officials said, 55 men were classified as hunger strikers even though most had eaten at least one meal in the previous 24 hours, and 39 met the criteria to be tube-fed with liquid nutrients. Officials said none were in immediate danger.

A handful have died, but don't worry, the torturing U.S. government says they are in no danger.
