Not trying to go all flowery.

"Police say teens beat, robbed Stoughton nursery owner" by Kiera Blessing | Globe correspondent   September 20, 2014

Two teenagers have been arrested in the beating and robbery Tuesdayof a 70-year-old man in Stoughton, officials said.

The teenagers, ages 14 and 16, allegedly arrived at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stoughton Nursery on Washington Street under the pretense of buying flowers, said Stoughton Deputy Police Chief Robert Devine. They then allegedly followed the 70-year-old business owner into his office, closed the door, and beat him with an item from his desk, believed to be a stapler.

The man suffered serious injuries, but will recover, Devine said. He was hospitalized, but has been released.

The teenagers allegedly stole about $1,500 from the cash register and the man’s wallet, Devine said, and fled on foot.

Police locked down the area and scoured the surrounding woods with dogs, which turned up scattered evidence, Devine said. The Stoughton line of the commuter rail was shut down for about 30 minutes during the search for the officers’ safety.

The 16-year-old was arrested in Brockton Tuesday night. The 14-year-old was arrested Thursday night, also in Brockton, Devine said.

Devine said Stoughton police are confident the two teens in custody were the only suspects involved.

The two were arraigned separately in Dedham Juvenile Court this week, Devine said. Both face charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to rob a person over age 60, assault and battery with serious injury on a person over age 60, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Neither of the teens’ names will be released because of their age, police said.
