"Lawmaker denies abuse, but paid accuser

A state lawmaker has acknowledged paying $100,000 to a woman to settle a lawsuit that alleged he sexually abused her when she was a child. Representative George Wilber, a former Colebrook first selectman, denied the abuse allegation and told the Torrington Register Citizen that he will continue to run for a fourth term in the Legislature. Wilber told the Sunday Republican of Waterbury that he decided to settle the case rather than fight it in court because the cost would have been about the same.
