Parts of Provincetown’s sewer system remained inoperable yesterday, more than three days after a July 4 rupture caused sewage to back up into sinks, toilets, and tubs, and bubble up over manhole covers on a busy holiday weekend....
Town officials, who hoped to have the system fully restored this morning, continued to advise residents and guesthouse owners in affected areas to minimize toilet flushing and refrain from using showers, dishwashers, and washing machines, or otherwise adding wastewater to the strained network.

Sharon Graziano, a year-round resident who lives in a four-unit complex on the west end of Commercial Street and whose landlord asked her to let neighbors use her bathroom after theirs backed up with sewage, complained....

The problem was compounded by the timing, with repair and cleanup crews navigating crowded streets, and business owners, town officials, and sewage-system contractors trying to communicate on a holiday weekend.
Don't worry, honey, we won't be going on vacation there ever again.
