"Sarkozy’s cutbacks clear a key hurdle; Outcry fails to kill proposal raising retirement to 62" by Jamey Keaten, Associated Press | September 16, 2010

PARIS — Despite vocal protests, French lawmakers approved President Nicolas Sarkozy’s sweeping retirement proposals yesterday....

Ever notice governments always have plenty of tax loot for wars, banks, corporations and themselves?

The retirement proposals are one of the pillars of Sarkozy’s conservative agenda and a prime target of France’s powerful unions. Yesterday’s vote puts France on track to become the latest European Union country to require workers to stay on the job longer because of a deficit-plagued pension system.

Who mismanaged that?

Anyone in Europe having second thoughts about joining the stink EU?

Passage was all but certain because Sarkozy’s allies have a majority in the assembly. But left-leaning opponents, emboldened by huge protests across France last week, mustered loud and vociferous opposition....

I no longer take political rhetoric seriously; we have seen voters elect "change" across the globe and yet the same power centers are being serviced.

Hundreds of protesters, waving banners and shouting “We are mistreated!,’’ rallied yesterday on the Place de la Concorde — across the Seine River from the Assembly — to demand that the government scrap the plan....

No, don't listen to them.

As the vote neared, the swelling crowd crossed the river toward the Assembly, where throngs of riot police kept guard.

Didn't the French government learn anything after what happened 200 years ago?

Police officials said 6,500 people demonstrated, but a labor union put the figure at 20,000 or more.

Then it was 20,000 or more.

Protests were also planned outside the offices of Sarkozy’s party in dozens of French cities....

Major labor unions plan an open-ended strike starting Sept. 23 over the measure.

A week ago, at least 1.1 million people turned out in 220 French cities to protest the proposals, and a strike disrupted trains, planes, hospitals, and mail delivery across the country.

This is what America needs to stop the war machine.

Now that is what I like to see!

Meanwhile, Sarkozy’s government is battling heavy criticism over its newly energized policy of deporting Gypsies, also known as Roma, who lack residency papers back to their home countries, mainly in Eastern Europe.

Maybe they ought to be criticized.

Sarkozy’s approval ratings are hovering near the lowest levels since he took office in 2007.

He's gone in the next round of elections. Seems to be a worldwide trend.

"As French oust Gypsies, ire all around" by Bloomberg News | September 16, 2010

PARIS — President Nicolas Sarkozy said he’s “taken note’’ of an apology from a European Union commissioner who linked France’s expulsions of Roma people to events during World War II....

Yeah, their record wasn't so good back then either.

Of course, that is the cause of

"French Senate votes to ban burqas in public" by Elaine Ganley, Associated Press | September 15, 2010

PARIS — The French Senate yesterday passed a bill banning the burqa-style Islamic veil on public streets and other places, a measure that affects fewer than 2,000 women but that has been widely seen as a symbolic defense of French values.

Those are French values, huh?

I would say so. It's what we call a DIVERSION here, and it reminds me of the mosque controversy.

Didn't you know those Muslim women you are liberating by slaughtering are to blame for all your problems?

It certainly can't be the lies that led to wars and the banks behind them.

The Senate voted, 246 to 1, in favor of the bill in a final step toward making the ban a law — though it now must pass muster with France’s constitutional watchdog. The bill was passed in July in the lower house, the National Assembly.

That is the unanimous type of vote one only sees when Israel's interests are at stake. One big symbolic French suck-up.

Many Muslims believe the legislation is one more blow to France’s number two religion, and risks raising the level of Islamophobia in a country where mosques, like synagogues, are sporadic targets of hate.

Yeah, shouldn't they be TREATED with MORE RESPECT?

And note the Zionist media having to throw in the poor Jews bit.

Yeah, their suffering is always greater, pffft.

Turn that record over, will you?

However, the law’s many proponents say it will preserve the nation’s values, including its secular foundations and a notion of fraternity that is contrary to those who hide their faces....

The bill is worded to trip safely through legal minefields. For instance, the words “women,’’ “Muslim,’’ and “veil’’ are not even mentioned in any of its seven articles....

France would be the first European country to pass such a law.It would outlaw face-covering veils, including those worn by tourists from the Middle East, on public streets and elsewhere.

Don't worry, I'm sure they can find someplace else to spend their money.

That will really help the French economy.

The bill set fines of $185 or citizenship classes for any woman caught covering her face, or both. It also carries stiff penalties for anyone, such as husbands or brothers, convicted of forcing the veil on a woman. The $38,400 fine and year in prison are doubled if the victim is a minor.

So what is the price for wasting them in far-off lands over lies?

The bill is aimed at ensuring gender equality, women’s dignity and security, as well as upholding France’s secular values — and its way of life.

By TAKING AWAY a woman's RIGHT to CHOOSE!!!!

The French women -- not illegal immigrants -- are CHOOSING to wear the VEIL!

No one is forcing them to do anything!

This is nothing but a POLITICAL PERSECUTION to try and WIN POINTS -- and then the paper wonders why there is Islamophobia!

Some women, like Kenza Drider, have vowed to wear a full-face veil despite a law....
