The Difference Between Propaganda and Public Relations

"NATO has held briefings on the propaganda war and stepped up its own public relations campaign with news releases."

A turd, by any other name, still smells like a turd -- and that smell is coming from my desk upon which by Boston Globe sits.

KABUL, Afghanistan — In other developments, international forces arrested two Afghan journalists during raids of their homes in the early hours of Monday and yesterday on suspicion of collaborating with the Taliban, The New York Times reported.

And what does the New York Times and the rest of AmeriKa's corporate media get for collaborating with the war-criminal liars of U.S. governments and serving as a mouthpiece for the Israeli agenda?

On Saturday, the Afghan intelligence agency arrested a radio reporter who leads the Kapisa Province journalists’ association, according to a spokesman for the governor, who would not say what the charges were.

KABUL, Afghanistan — President Hamid Karzai called yesterday for the quick release of three Afghan journalists — whose arrests analysts said were reminiscent of a strategy the US military used in Iraq, detaining local journalists to disrupt insurgents’ propaganda networks....

Yeah, we know what propaganda looks like. I'm staring at it on my desk right now as I do the analysis.

The NATO-led coalition said it had information linking the two journalists in its custody to networks that act as a mouthpiece for the Taliban and hinder efforts to win the loyalty of Afghan citizens skeptical of foreign forces and the Afghan government.

This is really, really atrocious "journalism," folks.

Of course, if you are a mouthpiece for the Zionist agenda you are placed on newsstands across the country. Yeah, they may lose tons of money (no one ever buys a Globe at the CVS), but it's still out there.

But advocates for the journalists say many reporters in Afghanistan have developed close connections to both insurgents and government officials to cover all sides.

Yeah, I notice the brown-nosing to government official and entering their press releases as news is okay.

“It’s dangerous to think by analogy that Afghanistan is the same as Iraq, but rounding up journalists seems to be a common thread,’’ said Bob Dietz, Asia program coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists. “This kind of activity really discredits the people trying to build a public base.’’

That was assuming they had any credibility left.

Of course, if anyone else in the world (except Israel, natch) does these things they are hammered by the hypocritical U.S. over human rights.

Since the Iraq war started in 2003, 14 journalists have been arrested and held by the US military, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. No one was convicted in an Iraqi court. All were released — many after months of detention.

Yeah, NO BIGGIE!

And NO APOLOGY, either!

In recent weeks, NATO has held briefings on the propaganda war and stepped up its own public relations campaign with news releases....

I'm REPORTING ON a PIECE of PROPAGANDA right now!

I will say this: the SHRILLNESS with which the hypocritical and lying AmeriKan media is hollering tells you THEY ARE DESPERATE!

The LIES are NO LONGER WORKING!

KABUL, Afghanistan — Three journalists picked up for their suspected links to Taliban propaganda networks have been freed after brief detentions that prompted angry reaction from journalism advocates and a call for their release by President Hamid Karzai.

Newspapers are our propaganda networks here on AmeriKa.

NATO said yesterday that it had released Mohammad Nadir, a television cameraman for Al-Jazeera, and Rahmatullah Naikzad, who worked for both Al-Jazeera and the Associated Press.

Yeah, that's one of them right there!

“After reviewing the initial intelligence and information received during questioning, the two men were not considered a significant security threat and were released,’’ said Rear Admiral Gregory Smith, communications director for the NATO-led military coalition. “During their brief detention, they were treated humanely and in accordance with international law and US policies.

Why would he have to emphasize that, huh?

“No news agency working in Afghanistan was targeted as part of these operations, and no guilt or innocence is presumed by our activities,’’ Smith said. “The operations were conducted with our Afghan partners and based on intelligence gathered over an extended period of time, focusing on insurgent propaganda networks and their affiliates.’’

Sort of leaves you feeling like they were still guilty of something, huh?

Oh, yeah, the MILITARY is another one of those PROPAGANDA NETWORKS they keep talking about!

Oh, right, that is called PUBLIC RELATIONS!

**************

Bob Dietz, Asia program coordinator for the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, said he did not think NATO was doing itself any favors by detaining journalists in the middle of the night....

Dietz also said that media coverage of the detentions might have been a factor in their quick release.

Yup, if you DON'T HAVE CONNECTIONS you STAY in the TORTURE HOLE!

Al-Jazeera, which has extensive contacts within insurgent groups in Iraq and Afghanistan, said Nadir and Naikzad were both innocent. Their contacts with the Taliban should not be viewed as a criminal offense, but rather as a necessary part of their work as journalists.
