Authorities identified a 34-year-old man who was found on a Chelsea street early Sunday morning and asked for the public’s help in finding out how he died.

Alex Perez, also known as Alex Perez-Lapop, of Chelsea was found on the sidewalk near 83 Cottage St., according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

Police were in the area for an unrelated call when they were approached just before 5 a.m. Sunday by a bystander who reported seeing an unconscious person on the sidewalk, prosecutors said.

Perez was taken to Whidden Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 5:45 a.m., prosecutors said.

A preliminary examination of his body did not reveal any signs of trauma, prosecutors said. The medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death....

My guess is a heroin overdose.
