Sunday Leftovers: Republican Response to Patrick's Phibs

I hate to say it, but a lot of the comments when they ran the item on Saturday predicted the Globe would bury this item -- and indeed, they did (and have).

"GOP calls on governor to remove Walsh; E-mails show Patrick's aides controlled hire" by Matt Collette, Globe Correspondent | March 29, 2009

The Massachusetts Republican party called yesterday for Governor Deval Patrick to "rescind his appointment" of state Senator Marian Walsh to a high-paying job at a state authority, but administration officials steadfastly defended the appointment.

That's why I'm staying a registered Repub, although if there are any third parties they get it; if it's Dem vs. Repub, then the incumbent goes; if it's unchallenged, then the box is left blank.

All predicated on the idea that I will be going to the polls next time -- not a sure thing anymore. George Carlin (may he rest in peace) had it right: DON'T VOTE! Then YOU AIN'T TO BLAME because THEY AIN'T LISTENIN' ANYWAY!

MassGOP spokesman Barney Keller said Patrick should pull his support of Walsh and questioned the circumstances that led to her appointment to a job at the Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority. "Governor Patrick and his staff should explain why they encouraged Allen Larson to deliberately mislead the public in order to install a political supporter in a patronage job," Keller said in a statement.

The Globe reported last week that internal e-mails showed that Patrick's top aides controlled Walsh's appointment, contradicting a series of denials. The e-mails showed that Larson, the authority's chairman, worked closely with Jay Gonzalez, Patrick's undersecretary of administration and finance, in the days before the authority voted to hire Walsh as a $175,000-a-year assistant executive director.

Critics have questioned Walsh's qualifications and noted that the post had been vacant for a dozen years. The position had not been advertised, and no search firm had been hired. The appointment was not on an agenda for the authority meeting where it was unanimously approved....

If you saw my "Saturday" link at the top you will see how the Globe really scrubbed the background and context for you. So if you didn't keep up on it like me, well.... how would you know?

That CALLS INTO QUESTION ALL their "INFORMATION," doesn't it?
