"Greylock moving base out of Boston; Venture capital firm says focus shifted to Calif. start-ups" by Robert Weisman, Globe Staff | May 20, 2009

Greylock Partners, one of the Boston firms that pioneered the venture capital industry in the 1960s, yesterday said it is moving its corporate headquarters from Waltham to Menlo Park, Calif. The firm has smaller offices in Israel and India....

Why am I not surprised in the least?

Greylock's move is simply a business decision, said Tom Hopcroft, president and chief executive of the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council, an industry trade group.

"I don't think it's a slap in the face," Hopcroft said. "I think it says more about who they're choosing to invest in than about the technology community here. There's a lot of activity here, whether it's in robotics or digital games or software as a service."
