Another $200 Billion For Wars and Other Things

That brings the price tag up to $200 BILLION in LESS than a MONTH!

Congress Approves Another $100 Billion For Wars

"House passes $106b bill for war funding; Money for clean cars, flu outbreak is also included" by Jim Abrams, Associated Press | June 17, 2009

WASHINGTON - War- funding legislation survived a fierce partisan battle in the House of Representatives yesterday, but its passage is a major step toward providing commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan the money they need for military operations in coming months.

Democrat president, Democrat Congress, wars continue. Some change.

The $106 billion measure, in addition to about $80 billion for military operations, provides for an array of other spending priorities, including $7.7 billion to respond to the flu pandemic and more than $10 billion in development and security aid for Pakistan and Iraq as well as countries such as Mexico and Georgia.

Democratic leaders pushing the bill on behalf of the Obama administration had to overcome an unusual alliance. Antiwar Democrats opposed continued war spending and Republicans condemned $5 billion in the measure to secure a $108 billion US line of credit to the International Monetary Fund for loans to poor countries....

WTF?

Someone else had the same questions as me:

"WTF is a military appropriations bill, HR 2346. doing containing money for the International Monetary Fund and flu pandemic preparedness, among other things? --more--"

Obviously, the flu money is for the mandatory vaccines planned for fall.

The Senate could move as early as this week on the legislation, which includes $1 billion to fund government rebates for consumers who trade in their old vehicles for more fuel-efficient models.

So they can stimulate the car market -- or so they think. Part of the fart-mist agenda I despise.

The Pentagon has said that without the bill the Army could start running out of war funds as early as July.

These guys ALWAYS SCREAM POVERTY to get their DAMN WAR LOOT!!!

They DID IT UNDER BUSH, and now they are DOING IT AGAIN!!

Good, RUN OUT of MONEY and END the WARS!!!!!!!!!

President Obama has pushed for the package, contending that it is crucial to his efforts to wind down operations in Iraq while boosting personnel and fighting power in Afghanistan.

War-mongering war criminal!

Republicans also objected to a decision by House-Senate negotiators to remove a provision prohibiting the release of photos depicting US troops abusing detainees. It was taken out, “at the demands of the fringe left,’’ said House Republican leader John Boehner, Republican of Ohio.

Obama, in negotiating the removal of the provision, guaranteed that he would stop the release of photos showing detainee abuse.

Despite the COURT ORDER!

And LOOK at how the MSM MISREPORTS this next series of events:

Unable to count on Republicans, Democrats had to appeal to some of the 51 antiwar colleagues who opposed the legislation when it was first offered in May.

Oh, they "appealed," did they?

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been trying to pressure some of those Democrats to switch their votes.... California Democratic Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey says the White House has also threatened to pull support from freshman anti-war Democrats who vote no on the bill.... In the crosshairs of the big guns at the White House and on Capitol Hill are anti-war freshmen legislators and the movement to hold those responsible for torture accountable.

In funding the wars, the White House has been able to rely on strong GOP support to marginalize the anti-war Democrats who have pledged to vote against continued funding (as 51 Democrats did in May when the supplemental was first voted on). But the White House is running into trouble now because of Republican opposition to some of the provisions added to the bill (and one removed), meaning the pro-war Democrats actually need a fair number of anti-war Democrats to switch sides. In short, the current battle will clearly reveal exactly how many Democrats actually oppose these wars. And, according to reports, the White House and Democratic Leadership have the gloves off in the fight:

Rep. Lynn Woolsey of California, a leader of the antiwar Democrats, said the White House is threatening to withdraw support from freshmen who oppose the bill, saying “you’ll never hear from us again.” She said the House leadership also is targeting the freshmen. “It’s really hard for the freshmen,” she said. “Nancy’s pretty powerful.”

Then DUMP HER!

That's what is known as an "appeal," huh, MSM?

Hey, what's ONE MORE DISTORTION and OMISSION in a NEWSPAPER FULL of them?

Representative Dennis Kucinich, Democrat of Ohio, indicated that he wouldn’t change his “no’’ vote. “America has to start taking care of things here at home and we can’t do it by continuing to support wars based on lies,’’ he said.

He was on the outs anyway! Give 'em hell, Dennis!

House majority leader Steny Hoyer, Democrat of Maryland, unsuccessfully appealed, saying 80 percent of the package still went to the troops. “Stand up for them,’’ he said.

Shameless Steny?

Hoyer said, “One of the problems is we have some very deep-seated philosophical views that pursuing Afghanistan and Iraq with additional funding is not appropriate.’’

No we don't; the AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT OUT and they DO NOT WANT ANY NEW ONES STARTED, either!!!!

Votes were swayed by other factors, such as the money to fight the flu pandemic and initiate the “cash for clunkers’’ auto program. Also in the measure is $534 million for 185,000 service members who have had their enlistments involuntarily extended since Sept. 11, 2001. They will receive $500 a month for every month they were held under stop-loss orders.

Stop-loss soldiers got screwed by Bush, huh?

Yeah, support the troops: keep the occupations based on lies going for the sake of and service to empire and Israel.
