"MBTA official accuses Aloisi of lie

Daniel Grabauskas, general manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, said Transportation Secretary James Aloisi told “a lie’’ when he suggested the commuter chief did not return his calls last week. Grabauskas said Aloisi called him twice last week while he was taking a mandatory furlough because of budget cuts, but neither time requested a call back. Nonetheless, Grabauskas said, he called Aloisi back after a National Transportation Safety Board member said at a public hearing that the T lacked a “safety culture’’ following a fatal trolley accident last year.

Grabauskas was asked about the dispute during an appearance yesterday on WGBH-TV’s “Greater Boston.’’ Aloisi “didn’t try to get in touch with me. It’s a lie,’’ he said. In response, Aloisi issued a statement saying he looks forward to Grabauskas’s response to the national safety board at the next MBTA meeting (AP)."
