Afghanistan: All For Nothing

Time to come home, America.

"Years wasted in Afghan effort, UN official says" by Jason Straziuso, Associated Press Writer | September 1, 2009

KABUL -- An American service member died Tuesday of wounds suffered in a bombing the day before in southern Afghanistan, the U.S. command said. The death was the first for the U.S. in September...

One day, one death! More to follow.

ALL for NOTHING, 'murkns!!!!!!!!!!

The international community has wasted years in Afghanistan by not coordinating its efforts, a top U.N. official said Tuesday on the eve of a meeting by U.S. and European envoys to discuss the country's recent election and deteriorating security.

Senior officials from 27 countries -- including special U.S. envoy Richard Holbrooke -- were to meet Wednesday in Paris, where officials were expected to urge Afghans to take more responsibility in the almost eight-year international effort to rebuild the country.

Notice the paper always makes sure it mentions Holbrooke?

Kai Eide, the top U.N. official in Afghanistan, said the international community needs to embrace well-coordinated, big-picture goals that will help Afghanistan in the long term.

Yeah, SCREW the SHORT TERM as the Afghans SUFFER and DIE!

"The piecemeal approach is not going to get results," Eide said. "Enough is enough with the piecemeal approach."

Time to LEAVE!!!!!!! Time to let the AFGHANS FIGURE THAT OUT!

Eide did not elaborate, but he and other critics have complained that foreign governments tend to favor funding small, relatively easy projects without a national impact rather than major missions -- such as overhauling the transport network -- which would serve as an economic engine for the whole country.

Right, and it would ALSO SERVE OCCUPATION FORCES!

That's why AMERICA'S HIGHWAY SYSTEM was built! For the MILITARY!

And YOU THOUGHT it was for YOU, 'murkn driver?

Btw, 'murkn, how come WE CAN'T GET such INVESTMENT here, huh?

The Paris meeting comes as the country faces mounting security and political challenges....

So get used to items like this, 'murka, until this madness comes to an end.

"4 NATO soldiers killed in bombings" by Associated Press | September 1, 2009

KABUL, Afghanistan - Bombs killed four NATO troops yesterday - two Americans and two Britons - ending the deadliest month of the war for US forces.

The US military said the two Americans were killed in separate explosions in southern Afghanistan but gave no further details. Their deaths brought to 47 the number of American troops who have died in the Afghan war in August, three more than in July which had been the deadliest month.

In London, the Ministry of Defense said the two British soldiers were killed by a bomb on a foot patrol north of Lashkar Gah, a southern Afghan city where Prime Minister Gordon Brown paid a surprise visit last weekend and promised help for his embattled forces.

US casualties have been mounting since President Obama ordered 21,000 more American troops to Afghanistan, shifting the focus of the war on Islamic extremism from Iraq to this country where the global conflict began nearly eight years ago.

Casualties mounting from the "change" candidate who said he'd end the wars, huh?

And IS THAT SECOND HALF of the SENTENCE ever LOADED with AGENDA-PUSHING, MUSLIM-HATING, WAR PROPAGANDA, 'eh?

Since the reinforcements began arriving last spring, American deaths have climbed from six in April to 12 in May, 24 in June to more than 40 for the next two months as US troops push into areas of the country long under Taliban rule....

What? I thought we drove 'em out with our "liberation?"
