BAGHDAD - Iraq’s government hopes that on this visit Vice President Joe Biden will have suggestions on how to ease tension with neighboring Syria....
The United States.... has said Syria still enables the smuggling of foreign fighters into Iraq....
General Ray Odierno, the top US commander in Iraq, told reporters after meeting with Biden:
“Syria continues to allow the facilitation of foreign fighters through Syria that both come into Iraq as well as, I believe, into Afghanistan. We do know that there are some ex-Ba’athist elements that are in Syria that are funding operations in Iraq, and we also know that they are operating Web sites that encourage attacks inside of Iraq.’’
Oh, COME ON, General! How do you stay in the room with the bullshit piling up?
Biden’s visit comes just before senior officials from Syria and Iraq, possibly the two foreign ministers, are to meet in Istanbul tomorrow in an effort to defuse the crisis.
Which all comes just after the two were repairing relations.
